Hi Chaps,a bit of info for you a site worth looking at is British pathe they have a couple of short films made for sunblest in 1963 lots of allied mills companies on them.

Is the Tewkesbury mill closed? Stayed for a short break with wife at the Bell in January and walked down to it, nothing going on.

Going back a bit. Can anyone remember Watkin’s Flour Mills in Hereford,they ran Commer four wheelers in the 60’s.

Yes Tewkesbury mill was closed in November 2006 by ADM site is empty but still has 24hr patrols on site for the last 4 years.cheers flourpower

Thats why I saw a car parked in there behind locked gates. What are they going to do to it, flats?
Oldacres mill at Ducklington closed years ago was talk of it being listed but was demolished just before 2007 floods. A workmates Dad worked there said they’d concreted in an old mill pond. Cue demolition gang breaking up the hardstanding during all that rain was like drilling a hole in a boat!

Dont know all the basement,ground floor,garage,warehouse and yard flooded in 2007 for the first time since 1987 when the yard was redevloped and a 2ft extension was fitted after the 1998 flood came close!!!So its a bit of a mess inside.Will have to wait and see what its turned into.

Worked @ Sugdens 1989 to 1997 when it closed.

Started on bags & chali tanks to individual bakeries…
Due to KM Knottingley then Ideal Selby closing we took on extra work.
Went onto tankers in 1992.

Got onto Wholemeal only…own loading point …lovely.

Had 265 Rolls Eagle (BHD 473Y), then E10 (E513 FLF).

Ran E10 J337 KKE until closure (fierce Jake Brake…heady days.

Have loads of images if anyone is interested.

Are those tipping tanks also pressurised?

Yes indeed,only 1 Bar SWP.

Quite bassic. Mainly Metalair, Felbinders started to come in about the time of our closure in 1997…

How did they go with axle weights? The ones I operated were all three compartments, with the hot pipe plumbed to the top, discharging from a manifold to the bottom of each compartment. Discharge pressure depended on the product. They didn’t need to tip.

If I recall no issues with axle weights J337 KKE (4x2) & triaxle tank tared off at just under 14000 kg, got a nice tidy 24000 product on. The tandem axle tanks could take a max of 20000kg loads.

These were unloaded by applying the tank park brake, releasing the tractor handbrake, the tractor then was pulled backwards as you raised the tank.

Not unknown, but very rare for a hydraulic hose to split as you tipped the tank and the tractor to be pushed forward as the oil escaped (was not a fan).

All were single compartment , some with a single baffle above the 5th wheel, rear outlet tanks, newer ones started to come with top air supply.

One the 3 8 wheelers had 2 compartments, had to blow out the front one first…if you did the rear first, the product could sit against the rear wall of the front tank and the tank could not be lowered…

Slightly off topic but does anyone recall Millenium mill in Silvertown being used to collect bagged animal feed. As a kid i webt somewhere in London with multiple conveyor belts where bagged feed was feed to the driver who handed it onto his truck by the truckload, my dad was one of those. Id love to know if im right and if pictures exist of this set up…cheers
