At Tilcons Ballidon Quarry both David ‘pup’ Robinson and the late Geoff ‘big tilley’ Land had screens full of flags, pennants and stickers! Everything had to be removed at MOT time of course. I remember Geoff saying that a Foden cab devoid of any embellishments ‘looked as bare as an army khazi’ and that was one thing you couldn’t say about his! I just had a sun strip.
Pete.
The only bling on A E Evans’ AECs was the “Inflammable” diamond and “caution air brakes” ont back ends
It got a bit better with Hazchem labels though.
Gotta admit I wasn’t a fan. But that was down to personal preference. To this day I can be bugged by a single fly on my windscreen within my radius of vision. I was never one for washing the wagon but it had the cleanest mirrors and windscreen on the fleet wherever I was. A windscreen full of flags and stickers was a definite no-no for me.
