southwalestramper:
just a word of warning to other drivers . i was parked in one of the laybys just of junction 30 of the m1 last night . i awoke this morning to find a fixed penalty notice affixed to my windscreen , ticket was issued by derby constabulary at 0127 this morning and reason given on ticket for issue was “no position lamps hours of darkness” so just be carefull if ur thinking of parking there in the future, i have regularly parked in these same laybys in the past with no hassle whatso ever but was a shocker this morning to wake to that crap.
Merchant Bankers the lot of em
Apart from those that have come over from the darkside …in particular car transporter drivers who have now seen the light
Fallmonk:
This happened to mate about a year ago in manchester (i think ) not in a laybye but on a industral est , 3 brits got ticket , one german never !!!
Germans traditionally travel around Europe without having permission to do so.
Amazing how many cars did this pig nick for parking on the otherside of the road at night (facing on coming vechicles) I know the answer its none. I know why he done it because at the same time as he pulled up to nick you there was a pub fight going on and the radio said all units attend the robin hood pub huge fight going on, the little wimp replied “unable to attend pub fight sir lorry here with no lights on”
This has happened in the past and the appeal was made on the grounds that the driver was in the cab and should have been woken. When the police left the ‘crime site’ the offence was still being commited and the danger to other road users still existed; The case was , I think, thrown out. But to prevent the same happening again, Halford’s bike lights with a long life LED do the job and the batteries last ages. Just fix one to the furthest out point of the vehicle.
Thats a classic ^^^ Whats good for one is good for another. Not a bad idea I had forgotten about that.
It’s something Derbyshire police are into. I remember reading an article in some mag or paper about them starting to issue tickets to vehicles in laybys with no kerb dividers and no sidelights on at night…
It’s more likely the copper is new and probably just found out you can issue you a ticket for this so tickets what he spots to look good.
Any time served sensible copper wouldn’t bother. I know one copper that would laugh and call him a knob
Its the same if you park in the Industrial Estate beside xscape at Castleford. One particular brave and couragous PC managed to do about 20 trucks there one night. Its not as if its a busy road and it is well lit with street lamps.
Wheel Nut:
Send them a copy of this picture with the snotty letter you write to the court.
It is not just Derbyshire though. Them tossers in Humberside Police will do you if you park on the M62 spur near Howden
Sorry chaps, but this wouldn’t work as there is a partition between the laybye and the carriageway.
You can’t get a ticket if there is a defined partition.
Well thers your answer…drop the trailer…pull forward a bit…keep the unit lights on, dont forget to take your number plate off…
On reflection…this is the same bunch of hand users that have issued me with a court summons for a fixed penalty, because DVLA took 7 months to issue me with my licence.
My MP is on the case now, so i should be giving you all the outcome very soon.
same happened around 7/8 yrs ago,and they are still doing the lorrys, every time one is parked in a layby with no divider, will at some time get a ticket.
just hope the A34 never gets like it,■■■■■ would have a field day.
This is not a new thing, just not frequent. It happened to me back in the 60s or 70s. After that we used to take out all the nearside bulbs and leave the lights on. Bit laborious but did the trick.
Also I once had my wagon driven away by the police on a London street when staying at a mate’s house. After reporting it stolen I then had to go to the pound and pay a fine to get it back.
