And without trying to sound smug…
I also know who had the first Volvo F12 flat roof… Peter Roff. GFC 366S which happened to come from Dawson’s Milton Keynes.
This was one of the first F12s in the Westcountry, operated by AE Stuart & Sons who still hold the Volvo Truck & Bus agency for the South West, and was driven by my Uncle from new.

I know exactly who had the very 1st F10 in the UK !… it was Philip Crouch , from Appledore, Kent.
I also have a copy of the original letter written to Philip by Mr A Levin, General Manager at Ailsa Trucks, dated 7th October 1977.
If the owner of the letter allows it, I shall post it here, but in the meantime here is the transscript:“Dear Mr Crouch. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on being the owner of the FIRST Volvo F10 tractor to be put on the road in Great Britain. We wish you all the best for the future and are sure that your investment in the Volvo F10 will prove to be very profitable”.
Nice one Ashley - wonder what happened to their yard when they finished?
Did Nelson,s of Arnside have an early one about 77 78,i remember seeing one on the new road car car park in kendal.

I had this, one of the first in south Yorkshire day cab F10

Surely that’s why it’s called a fifth wheel
B and R hauliers had 2 S reg F12s and 2 S reg F10s most definitly 1977, no photos availiable as they were all burnt when their premises in Silk St.Salford exploded late one saturday night. Those premises were previously Fred Davies. Crow.

Is that why its a 5th wheel
Ash, I thought it was Philip Crouch as I sort of remember it but time does play funny things with the mind. I sure thats Reg at the wheel but stand to be corrected.
Hi all i used to own a F12 it was ex Cavewood LHD and the reg was HWL972S,it must have been one of the early ones and i had it converted with a Granning rear lift axle by Hartshorne in Birmingham to cater for the increased weight in 1983. We used to pull SCAC trailers out of Portsmouth with it when the docks consisted of a gravel carpark which only held about 20 trailers max plus a few on the single quayside, how things have changed. Here are a couple of pics of HWL.

Who had the very first Volvo F10/12 in the UK? This photo suggests dawson’s.I am sure someone know’s. PaulWhy does the photo suggest a ‘T’ reg. Dawsons ■■
Swifts first F10 was TJL 563S and went on the road Jan 78 but was by no means the first around then - wasn’t it Autumn 77 when they were out in the uk ?
The writing suggests Dawson’s not the photo, I do know they were on S registration plates but I was asking who had the first One,Paul.
Sorry missed the notes underneath the pic - hadnt moved the pic See what you mean now
I remember the first ones had the F88 steering wheel & mirrors + the overdrive switch on the dash
Did the early ones not have the splitter on the dash?

yeah they did -on the centre console to the right of the heater controls
On the grille badge, what does the number after the word ‘Turbo’ denote?
