Open day at Barry Fire Station early 80’s.
An unusual one here FS7■■
Brand New 2005 JDC Scania 94. two 05 plates & 3 04 plates were delivered.
The newest Aerial Appliance in their fleet.
More great pictures and pleasing to see some Welsh stuff which made me wonder if anyone can help with this one… I remember when was a kid we went to Barmouth for our holidays and the flat we stayed in was opposite the old fire station which was little more than a garage adjoining a shop (late 60’s?). I think that Monday was their drill night as I vaguely remember the crew opening the station up and doing stuff. Has anyone got pictures of the old station and the fire engines? We left our car in a a garage would the name of the guy have been Bradshaw or Bradbury or similar? I think the ambulance was stored at the garage or it was having some work done on it. Anything would be good, thanks.
Thanks for pointing out the Albion bits to me (sorry I was doing my thicker than ever thing)
The Saxon Volvos had to be supercharged as they could get out of their own way, this opened up the floodgates for the other manufacturers. I remember doing a road test with an MAN at John Dennis Coachbuilders. They were saying how they had to be so hesitant with the latest Volvos as they wouldn’t pick up at roundabouts etc and they almost got themselves T boned on a couple of occasions.
Here’s the next chapter…same applies
Jim, if anyone wants stories there are literally hundreds, just say the word I just didn’t want to bore people…
Many years ago in the 1970’s and 1980’s, I was running to Hungary quite a lot for A One Transport, there was a commer Fire engine used in Budapest, I saw it quite a few times, it must have been one of our worn out machines from the UK, but it put a smile on my face every time I saw it. ,:-Jack Graham

Glenn,
It was Bradbury’s garage in Barmouth, I delivered spares to them and my cousin worked there, the fire station had an s’type bedford at one time and later on an Hcb angus tk, sorry don’t have pictures
I think a lot of GB fire engines were exported after their ‘sell by’ dates especailly to third world countries. I remember taking on of ours to Felixstowe for export and Ian Tonge near Goole send loads abroad still. The Commer might still be in service!
Here’s another one for your collection Glen. This one was used by Bowater Scott at one of their mills, possibly Barrow as I think that RM is a Carlisle registration.

Trev, thanks for the info about Barmouth, briilliant - the chase is still on for any photographs if you come across anyone that may have some.
Strav, thanks for the Edinburgh info and the rescue picture. We stayed at a Premier or Holiday Inn or whatever it is next to the museum and never went in! Doh! The rescue pic brings me on to a colleague of mine who carried out a similar rescue at a hotel fire. Sadly the old lady being rescued was extremely frightened (no wonder to be honest, so were we!) and old ladies and bowels being what they are… urgh! And people say to me, by I bet you saw some sights - YUP! lol
