Final shift done

Strangely enough it’s the same with my current employer. Its why they’ve got one week until they are my previous employer.

UKtramp:
It is 10.75p per hour plus £22 per night out, why I left them after a very short period. Work you to death max hrs to try to earn a decent wage. Trucks rarely run dry miles, always a return load and lots of waiting time, then max hrs to try to recover the lost time…

Agree, the money isnt good but return loads are what its about, im always fully freighted whichever route im on, its what earns the money and pays for the fuel at the same time. It has to be weighed up though against distance to pick up and how long youre hanging about, a lot penny pinching clearing houses price up rates so its just fuel cost covered…

Why would any business want it’s 2 best assets not being maximised.

We used Keedwells yard at Henswell last year for overflow at Howdens. Talking to their drivers I couldn’t believe the wage they were on. Even more unbelievable is they actually had drivers they employed for that money given that Normanton and Doncaster were both within reasonable travel to work and paying over £2/hr more.

Trucks rarely run dry miles, always a return load and lots of waiting time, then max hrs to try to recover the lost time. Wasn’t my cup of tea. Planners are useless and on the phone every 5 mins, encouraging you to unload and put on break. I did my last shift and simply walked away. Some good lads working there but they won’t stay either.

Doesn’t sound like the Keedwells I work for

Nor me either!!

UKtramp:
A bit of a sad day and at the same time a bit of excitement going to pastures new. Leaving one colour for another, anyway got the truck back to them pretty much unscratched to how it could have been.

Does that include your nights out?
Whether it does or it doesn’t, look at…
A. The hours you need to put in to achieve it, compared to other industries.
B. What the figure could be if they paid you on a proper wage structure, such as time + half after 40 hours for eg.
Not so great then in teal terms is it.

But rob the point is uk tramp is leaving keedwells because the money ( 32 k p.a ) is crap and going to take a job at stobarts tramping where the wages are even worse

Firstly, if you were on hourly rate, what’s the problem with waiting time (aka getting paid for sitting on your arse)

Work you to death ?..only if you allow them to.

Recovering lost time because of crap planning aint your responsibility, they will only expect it because some will no doubt do it :unamused: .
It just exacerbates the situation, makes them look like they are competent at their job, and a crap life for the driver.

On the phone every 5 mins.? …Tell them to leave you alone, you will contact them when tipped or loaded.

Encouraging you to put on break when loading?answer with 2 words, second one being ‘‘off’’…you have the law on your side on that one. :bulb:

A job is as good or as crap as you make it and depending how much you allow yourself (or not) to be abused.

Not a tramper so forgive me of this is incorrect.

I would have thought if you are tramping you would want to do max hours (hourly paid obviously) to make up for the fact your are away from home.

I know I certainly want to when we have out odd nights out with our lot, otherwise it is just not worth the fact I am not sleeping in my own bed.

Then again with Stobart hourly rates you need to be working all hours God sends just to have an average wage.

Still the Green Uniform and shiny shiny truck make it all worthwhile :open_mouth:

You cut your cloth according to the area you live in!
Keedwells to me

Where are you? Use your tracker
Will you be on time ? I will let you know if not
Start at 3 am ?
Put it on break while you work? Do you want this discussion with Stuart Keedwell present and a visa person

Yes, but with Stobart tramping there are better ways to up your hours without maxing out grafting, POA is the future.
