Wish I could help!

Hiya i thought the portsmouth to bilboa had been knocked of and everything was going to santandare

The P&O route has been taken over by brittany ferries.

3300John:
i’ve come home on the bilboa ferry a couple of times its 36 hours.

The Brittany ferry is much quicker, and much less of a “mini cruise” its now around 17-21hrs
I`ve used both ferry companies albeit to taken my motorbike over to Spain.

There is another option for anyone going over for leasure, and thats the “land bridge” ferries run by LD lines
Take the ferry from the UK to france then travel overland to Nantes and take the ferry from St Nazaire (Nantes) to Gijon"

It must be a very fast ferry t cut the sailing time from Plymouth from 36 to 17 hours FFS

the p&o boat used to go in circles, they only took 36 hours to put you on the other side first thing on a morning plus they got 2 night out of you.

Dont start helping yourself though, thats called stealing!

We drive down to Sedella near Velez-Malaga twice a year and now take this route, we find it far faster . The boat is mainly a freight boat , last October when we were on it there were only 6 cars and the rest was mainly Portuguese trucks (Patiner) doing car parts to Peaugot at Nantes and Rennes . Ther are very limited facilities in the dock at Gijon but there is a superb resteraunt in the Marina which is in the port complex.
I prefer the route south from Gijon as it misses Madrid ,the only large town you go through is Seville ,but they are doing alot of roadworks there to by pass it. If you are coming out of Gijon in the direction of Leon ,it is advisable to take the toll road which is quite a climb, but the national road is 5 times worse.

My drivers ship this route on a regular basis and I never get any complaints !!! Better than driving round.

Ive always taken the ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao, and since Brittany ferries took over the P&O Pride of Bilbao route, theyve shortened the journey time to make it less of a mini cruise

Yes but one hell of a difference in price (Car and 2 pax) BF one way (last September ) Ports / BIL £350, LD this May £200 return , plus when we go back to UK at the end of June, LeH/Ports £68

Bizarrely its cheaper to take a car + 2 passengers than it is to take a motorcycle + 1 person. As the ferry Co`s tailor discount packages towards car/passengers.
Last year I was quoted £700+ rtn portsmouth - bilbao in july.
Even on the Hull - Zebrugge route this year its costing me £300+ rtn in July to take a motorcycle + 1 person.
