noisycarl:
Colour Line between Oslo and Kiel, you get the same as the paying punters via a voucher, not bad at all. The other is Immingham to Gothenburg freight boat, it’s the crew meals served in a separate room with only 12 drivers max
Of which I shall be partaking in such culinary from Gothenburg tonight:tommorrow.
Again. The Pompey Caen boat always served up decent sized steaks, a nice quaffable red and a huge help yourself range of starters.
I was always surprised by the number of French drivers who ordered the ‘fool Eeeenglish’ for their breakfast.
Always surprised me few drivers using their 50% off in the restaurant on Brittany? If you thought the cafe was good, this is another level. £13 for x3 courses wine extra. Can’t go wrong.

The breakfast in the resto is good too. All the cold hams and cheeses, grapefruit, viennoisserie, plus the full cooked and endless tea/coffee.
For a “Freight Drivers Lounge” meal I’d have to pick Stena Line on the Karlshamn-Gdynia route, albeit was almost 11 years ago and things have probably changed. Table served the whole time the ship was in transit (10-11 hours iirc) with all the best of the polish cuisine.
But as most Scandinavia/Baltic Sea crossings cater to tourists and drivers undiscriminatively, I’d choose Fjordline Sandefjord(N)-Strömstad(S) with a three-course a la carte meal, on a three hour crossing, for free. Probably followed by Wasaline,
Vasa (Fin) - Umeå(S) across the Bothnia, in tourist season.
Anyways I’d think you’d have to search hard for an unpleasant dining experience around these parts, for a trucker. I don’t think I’ve ever paid for a meal on a northern european ferry and only Karlshamn-Ventspils (Lv) 18h crossing had food that left something to be desired.
Worst, close call between Jadrolinja on both Zadar-Ancona and Split-Ancona and a Ventouris Ferries from Durres, Albania to Bari. Was free, didn’t matter.
The one time I ate on there it was yuck .the Meals I’ve had on the Aberdeen to Shetland have been good and on a ferry once from Ancona very good as for the ones across the channel and over to Ireland I can’t really remember there being much in it they were just average cheep ferry meals .
I used to like the ‘help yourself to however much of whatever you want for 3 quid’ on the Sealink boats out of Dover.
Also, for a bit of class, the North Sea Ferries boats out of Hull on a Saturday night were good. A dedicated section of the main a la carte dining room, waiter service (the waiters would get to know the regulars) and pretty good chow.
