Favourite film list

For comedy
It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.
Most of the Carry On Series.
Idiocracy.

I like “concept” films, especially what’s known by the Dr Who fraternity as “Timey Wimey” stuff.

Favorite Films include
Terminator 1 & 2 as others have said above,
A Matter of Life and Death - a fantastic film that stands the test of time…
Favourite TV Series of recent years?
Probably “Fringe”.

I liked the German story “Dark” on netflix as well, set in 1887, 1920, 1953, 1986, 2019, 2052
A great timey-wimey tale that’ll melt your brain!

Bone Shaker:
The Enemy Below.

Run Silent,Run Deep.

Das Boot.

The Beast( Also known as The Beast of War)

A brilliantly made film about the Russian invasion of Afghanistan and a tank crew getting lost, very original and shows how the Taliban out witted them, the women stoning scene is quite graphic.

Wasn’t there a common line said by both captains in “Das Boot” and “The Enemy Below” - “Ich hass dies verdamtes Krieg”. putting across the notion that a lot of the “Enemy” are nothing but hapless patriots fighting for their own country, and as human as the rest of us. It’s an anti-war statement of course, and injects a full measure of Humanity back into the Captain characters, who otherwise is too easy to “■■■■ out of hand” for merely being “The Enemy we’re fighting”.

Try and watch the final scene of Das Boot without snarling at RAF Air Raiders involved.
“Das Boot ist on de other foot” if you will.

the maoster:
I’m surprised that Blade Runner hasn’t been mentioned.

Kudos to Juddian for naming my personal number one; Leon.

The “Tears in the Rain” Monologue - perhaps the best “showdown” scene of all time.
That someone born almost “non human” can aquire both Humanity AND Redemption involving the concept of a mortal soul, nicely depicted by the Dove in this scene.

(Usual Spoiler Alert of course…)

the song by the german sub mariners in enemy below is So Leben wir alle tage :

Ironically the Submarine pens built on the French coast were never penetrated even by the RAFs best bunker busting bombs.
While if you read Herbert Werner’s and Heinz Schaeffer’s accounts there wasn’t much place for humanity in the U boat service like most submarine services on all sides.Which obviously applied to our own celebrating after leaving the Belgrano’s crew to their fate in the South Atlantic without offering any assistance.Bearing in mind that Doenitz’s unrestricted warfare order was only issued in response to the attack on a clearly red cross marked U boat that had rescued the crew and passengers of a torpedoed liner. From memory I think there was actually a film made of the incident.

To add was a BBC two part docu drama called sinking of the Laconia.I think it was adequate defence against Doenitz’ accusation of war criminal.

There was also a dark side to that great creativity in the day concerning treatment of animals in certain cases.

Fiddler on the roof, was Savile in that one

Fuhrer commands we follow”.

An act of defiance from a “White” ■■■■ there, covering “Fuhrer” with the towel…
It would have looked better if the towel had “Capitain” on it of course…
The master of a vessel - is traditionally supposed to be Abosolute Authority ON that vessel, rather than some far-away jackbooted dictator…

That’s correct/ same 4 airline captains who av the power of arrest on their aircraft

I think I saw/read somewhere that U boat captains were aware of political overseers placed on board watching them.Might have been in Iron Coffins or U977.
Obviously not this one.
