No idea about this accident but seen plenty changing wheels in lane 1 , I rang coppers about 8 months ago about bloke doing it in lane 1 of m1 , they said they were aware of it , but I said to her there’s no signage up saying lane 1 is shut , said she’d sort it .
And as always……… the thread has drifted away from the original post topic into a wily waving contest thread about speed and fuel efficiency
‘We often say a veh was on the verge’ which could describe anything from the nearside wheels just at the edge of the tarmac or the offside wheels three feet beyond it into a field
So what, if it keeps people away from making uninformed criticism of people involved in this accident surely that is a good thing. When more facts become known that is the time for discussing the circumstances.
As regards reducing the speed limiters, that would be a disaster, there are enough angry motorists about now banging on about elephant races and HGV drivers hogging motorway lanes for mile after mile, without further encouragement.
My long held view has been to fit temporary overides to speed limiters so that for a maximum period of, say, 5 minutes or so, lorry drivers could rapidly and safely overtake each other. I hear that in the States where speeds in excess of 75 mph are often permissable, there has been talk by the authorities of introducing something like limiters but also a maximum period in each shift where, for safe overtaking, drivers have a certain time for the limiter to be overidden.
Ok if you say so, I have only been operating them for the last 53 years so don`t know too much about the job? Bank statements say different though lol.
Agree with Spardo. The problem is truck drivers who are just novice car drivers and can’t drive at any speed.Ofyen running at 35 mph in a 50 mph limit because that’s all they can handle. They know themselves that they are a liability to everyone around them over that speed.
