fasten up

degsy4wheels:
…no idea what it is if its not done up though

I guess it’s then just a step-up from those Kidney Belts that some cyclists (and motorbike riders) wear.

As stupid as it sounds, this does actually make some sense, if a hi viz is flapping around is can get caught up on things possibly causing injury to the wearer :bulb:

What will be the next step walking round with a cone on your head with a pair of them flashing trainers kids used wear :smiley: :smiley: :smiley:

Possibly. Hi viz is already referred to in some circles as “urban camouflage”. personally, I’d feel a ■■■■ sight safer if I knew drivers were looking out for people, rather than hi viz.

I think that was one reason (RAC or AA) some company’s had hi viz strips and obscure patterning incorporated into their uniform at somepoint

DPD have this incorporated in their polo shirts and fleece tops. They don`t like their guys wearing vis vests cos it makes them look like common or garden workmen.

What do the Regulations require?
PPE should be used as a last resort. Wherever there are risks to health and safety
that cannot be adequately controlled in other ways, the Personal Protective
Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 require PPE to be supplied.
The Regulations also require that PPE is:
â– â– properly assessed before use to make sure it is fit for purpose;
â– â– maintained and stored properly;
â– â– provided with instructions on how to use it safely;
â– â– used correctly by employees.

If you think this is bad in the States they changed their legal requirement for ANY WORKER that has to work on the highway 3 times in 2 years …that includes all emergency workers ie fire med and police as well as maintenance recovery etc one of the fire departments now have to have HI VIZ available for every seat on all newly bought equipment.

marcustandy, the reason I was the way I was with him, is because of the way he was with me from the outset.
What I will say is if he would of spoke to me in a normal manner, then I would have done the same to him.
Don’t come storming over and demand I comply like you are talking to something you would wipe from your shoe, don’t dictate to me, just ask, tell me that this is the way things are here in a manner that you would like to be treated.
Just cos you have a position of meaning and authority do not force it down my throat, speak to me like a normal person and I will treat you the same with respect and courtesy. There are too many people at these sites that don’t know how to treat visiting drivers as people.

I never fasten my hi viz. They don’t breathe and are far to warm and sweaty even with just a t-shirt underneath. Not healthy at all imho!

+1 Bloody well said, sir. It STILL costs nowt to be civil, so why be anything else?

I was asked at Asda XDC Warrington to fasten up my Hi-Vis as it was H&S rules, I asked him to show me the directive from the HSE that states this, he could not as it is not a rule from the HSE. He went on to say will it’s a site rule.
I stood there and pretended to try and do it up at which point he said that I would have to get another one that did fit, my reply was “Are asda going to supply me with one then” he said we can not do that you have to have your own hi-vis,
“I have my own, I wearing it and I’ve never had a problem with it at any other of the hundreds of sites I’ve been to inc Asda ones” to which he said well you need to do it up here, “if you want me to get a new one then you can pay for it then”, to which he just walked off mumbling to himself. :smiley:

Not quite what you said in your post is it and he had said it was H&S rules , which it prob is at that site which again you said that’s the reply you got…so by accounts you got your knickers in a twist …

It’s not rocket science is it, if at Asda wear one that fastens up.

Or is that not cool enough looking for you :unamused:

Last year someone posted a picture of a WW2 diving suit, I think complete with rotating womble light on the helmet. We shall soon all have to wear one of them.

not really Its more like if its fitted use it a bit like if you have lights fitted use correctly when required

I drive around in hiviz T shirt and hiviz trousers, do I have to take these off and drive in my underpants so I don’t dazzle other drivers ?

I baffled a H+S rep at a customer’s once, came charging through clipboard in hand jotting notes, told him it wouldnt work as his pen wasnt Hi Viz and hadnt been risk assessed.
He walked off mumbling looking at his pen :grimacing:
