Ah, those old rose tinted specs! A couple of years ago I was offered a days work in a 143 450 a mate of mine had just bought. Great I thought, a day out recalling my younger days tramping round Europe in the king of the road. Jesus H Christ! How did I manage 1 hits from Milan home in that noisy old bone shaker or 2weeks out in that tiny cab.
Not sure but there may still be at least a handful of Irish operators, maybe Owner Drivers still running to the UK and/or continent in 143s.

I saw three 143’s out working on Friday.
Seen a white 143 topline coming up the M5 on Monday morning, think it had Spanish plates on Deffo a left ■■■■■■ look a bit tatty but yea I’d sure have a crack at it
Thanks for all your replies, good or bad im taking it all onboard
Re fuel economy tbh i never really found the 16 too bad on fuel, probably a little thirstier than my previous F12 400, that was on a G 89 plate, as anything depends how you drive and again depends what you get used to but always found the old Volvos comfortable, probably not quite on a par with new stuff though. Was always fully freighted both ways from the C.D.S with juices and return loads from Belgium with plastic granules in bulk bags and this i did for 9 months. The co. i would sub from are happy to have the truck do their work as long as it has their logo and repair/ servicing is also on offer at very reasonable rates. Re permits and other expenditure/restrictions though it may put a spanner in the works…
Thanks Immigrant for all those links. Certainly no shortage of service parts there and looks like many parts are the same for many models anyway…
You could get a euro 4 exhaust from a breakers for as little as £100 up to £1200 ish or a new one approx £4-5 k and get a smoke test ,if it passes that will get you a Rpc for 23 months until you need a vosa smoke test on mot time ,it will then need to be a really clean filter and a good engine to pass .

Couple of months ago I got called to a rental firms trailer at XPO in Grimsby. Anyway, the unit on front was an Irish 143, the owner driver did Spain/france to UK. He seemed happy enough running it, and it was mechanical sound, but was looking work worn.
I come then driving. Not need a Pay if i can drive a F16. Just expenses
