Cheers for the replies all, I believe an appointment has been made except that now the dumb (zb) has done has back in and cant move for a few weeks 
…never mind, he`ll get over it!! 
i had my medical on the 24th feb…sent the forms off the next day…heard nothing back…my entitlement expired today so a rang them…they said …yes they have received my forms and i can continue driving till they send my new licence through…they said they would send me a letter confirming this to produce if nessessary. 
letter arrived from dvla today…“cover note to drive while renewing current driving entitlement”
says at the bottom"show this letter if asked to produce your licence by police"
word of advice…if you are in this situation call the dvla and get a cover note!!
i just got a phone call from my tm this morning saying that on a records check my licence had expired!!i explained the situation and told him that i had a cover note from the dvla so he said in that case you can drive tonight as long as you bring the letter so we can photocopy it…sooo it seems if i had not got the cover note i might have been grounded till i got my licence back…which has still not arrived.(expired 23/3/10).
my last renewal should have been 13/3/05…but was 10 days late coming back.
