^^ I think they’re Antipodian right-hand drive examples, Ken! But most impressive nonetheless. Robert
An amusing bank-holiday aside here!
This picture appears on Flickriver by ‘Northernblue109’. He has, of his own admission, photoshopped it - and rather well, I think. The picture is based on an old picture that has long been on this thread, of a 6x4 unit that went to Belgium. He describes it as an ERF LV, which of course it patently isn’t! It’s a 6x4 chassis with a 3MW cab. Robert
The phantom photoshopper strikes again! lol . Tastefully executed though! Robert
Hi,
Not sure if this belongs on here? I found it somewhere on Facebook, not my picture,South Island New Zealand.

It features on the ERF RHD 5MW thread, being - as you say - from New Zealand. Robert
Bubbleman posted this on another thread. The caption reads: “Steel cabbed trucks for Belgium-part of ERFs many export successes”. It looks as if this may have been taken at CDB in Belgium after the units were assembled from CKD kits. A-J may be able to identify some of them. Robert
Thank you Robert for this new entry! Herewith in a group some relevant pictures and
the picture you posted is around the time that CDB (within 10!!! days after receipt of
the CKD-kits till the status of the paint-job) assembled for Delcon.
The other pictures show that the three-axled chassis didn’t had bumperlights.
CDB had quite a large workshop (corner of Rue Foyer Schaerbeekois with Chaussée
de Haecht) with also other adjustments/assemblies for White and Autocar. On the
left of your picture was probably the rear-side of a International or Autocar.

Ah, well done A-J ! I thought you might be able to shed a little more light on the subject . R
It were challenging times for CDB and mind the ran a company and not like us enjoying romantic scenes
of the trucking industry, The gross 25 CKD-kits were shipped to CDB as a consignment with invoicing and
payment of the purchase after the final sale. Not a bad agreement and CDB were very flexible on hours
to allocate their mechanics…on order XYZ for perhaps three 6x4 Autocar-tippers for contractor Sogetra
or order KLM for two White-tractors for …and then the ERF-orders for Delcon, Hydrocar, Delsaert, Hye,
Van Driesssche, Cockerill, etc etc so they made MONEY!!!
Strange that quite soon e.g. around 1975 (mind EC-market) the market went lazy and slow to expedite
sales despite the need to assemble out of CKD-kits.
Bear in mind that the archives of CDB were not a romantic or ready-to-publish novel…

Perhaps the market went a bit quiet after UK joined the EEC while people waited to see what would happen to import duties / tariffs and other importation arrangements. At least after that time CDB could import ready-built ERFs as required. R

NTK 310 how strange.Turbocharged 743 at high horsepower.Never even seen one at that rating.Non piston cooled I think.Oh no! I think that one had a Rolls Royce 220 in it. Mind you, I have to say that seems strange as it is an R-reg (so 1997/8) and being a LHD on long-haul European work (I believe it did Portugal) I would have thought that a RR 280 might have been more suitable but there you go! This 5MW-cabbed unit was a classic UK-spec version of the model, so it could not strictly be classified as a ‘European’ or a ‘Belgian-cabbed’ ERF as it was quite clearly a LHD (non-export) unit intended for use by UK hauliers on international operations. Don’t forget that you could have one of these (non-tilting) fully Euro-spec 5MWs with a ■■■■■■■ NH 250 or even a NTC 335 engine and 9-sp Fuller. Or, like the Rolls Royce version, you could have LHD 5MW with a Gardner 240 (8LXB) and 6 or 8-sp David Brown 'box. As I’ve said before, 5MWs are a minefield! Robert

My brother drove this one for a few years when we were both at Partricks. It was on the Portugal run and the foreign mechanic that attended a breakdown in Spain or Portugal wasn’t amused when he found out it was a non tilting cab lol
Looking forward to seeing it restored.
No separate forum for the LHD 3MW but herewith (for Rowena bumped up) pictures of a French-leaflet.
Same content as the other language-versions but as CDB served Belgium with its three languages and
had exports to France and overseas customers.
In Belgium the company Ets. Thibaut from Strée had a similar tractor

That’s a nice discovery, A-J. I hope you’re keeping well in these strange times!
Quite frequently 5MW ERFs were equiped with the kysor-shutter…CDB had some advantage
with the supplier next door.
Here some Dutch scans of the brochure and possibly more documents come from their archives.

If I can get hold of my brother (Graham), who used to drive this, I’ll ask if he can help with the tech specs./ history. I was also at Partricks at the time but I wasn’t on the “continental” side so I never drove this. I believe it may have been bought as a cancelled order at the motor show as Partricks had a habit of doing that so it would have been bought as a complete vehicle rather than ordered.
My brother is still living and working in France as a driver but is a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to computers/phones lol

RO not seen this picture before, Buzzer
Nice try! It’s on the ERF RHD 5MW thread here somewhere. (Cracking pic on the Davies thread, of one of your lorries in S’oton Docks, I thought this week ).

Truckerash did a trip to Portugal in it as a lad, I believe. Your brother isn’t his uncle is he?
