ERF 'European' (1975)

I HAVE MOVED THE DISCUSSION ABOUT 3MWs TO THE “ERF LHD 5MW (EUROPEAN)” THREAD.

This is (a) because it promises to go on for some time

and (b) because it belongs to that thread

and (c) because the information in it is useful to that thread and follows on from previous discussion on there.

Here’s the link to that thread:

trucknetuk.com/phpBB/viewto … &start=510

Been on before, but at least this doesn’t have photobucket wrote across it

PKC kits - are there any of these still about?

Could try Facebook. I’m not on it, but I think you can only get them on there.

Evening all!
Quite a lot of interesting change is going on in my life these days. I remain in excellent health. By choice, I’m taking this opportunity to take very much a back seat on TruckNet from here on.
I’ve enjoyed all the discussions and the exchange of information and material. In my opinion, TruckNet still has a proper place as a stand-alone social media platform for those who don’t like the big umbrella ones; and I wish it every success.
I hope that between you, this particular thread, for which I have special affection, will be kept alive and that new information will continue to be posted on it. If anything really significantly spicy comes my way I will of course endeavour to share it. All the best!

Hi Ro,

In my turn, I’d like to express TN’s and my own personal thanks for your contribution to the Mod/Admin Team, and just mention that the door remains open if you change your mind.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to wish you well in your endeavours.

Sudden, understandable and I hope good personal news for you Miss H and stay safe, sound, happy and satisfied!

We sometimes ‘disagreed’ or had thorough discussions leading to something new but that’s what a forum is for?

Happy Spring,

The writer of the caption appears to think that the NGC was only exported (rather than being immediately available in the UK) because it exceeded the legal weight. Where does that info come from? It certainly is not in Hackford’s books. I think it’s a piece of misinformation, as after a couple of years they were available to UK operators anyway.

In my opinion, the author of the piece assumed that because it was plated at 42 tonnes gross for Continental use, it would be illegal here. Not so. It was plated at whatever local weights prevailed locally. On page 6 of Lorries of Arabia (book 1) it clearly states that they “were simply plated at permissible weights according to their country of operation (32 tonnes in UK, 38 or 42 tonees in Belgium and France, and 42 or 50 tonnes in Holland).”

Well, the introduction of the Scania-Vabis (after 1969 Vabis was skipped) was earlier (1968) than the NGC with Scania-looks, so FB was not accurate

I hear you Les…but the rest of the bunch was not aware of that challenge…or, what would have been the result if
one of the first/biggest user of the NGC decided to proceed with nowadays > 250 tractors and 1.000 trailers and MB
was the final winner…if there is a winner at all

By then ERF Ltd would be innovate to cover the 3MW/5MW classic look of the front grille…I don’t know if John3300 (who worked at Jennings and ERF Ltd) still is
around and here with us…he could shine another light on what was the case with the old cab of Motor Panels. Bear in mind that research & development as well as
design in the seventies was something different without computer, etc etc

BINGO! I believed in you all along: I always knew you’d eventually come up with new material for this thread; and for the wider interests of the NGC project. This is an entirely new picture to us on here. We must now work out which French unit this is. But it might be an entirely new one. :sunglasses: Oh, happy picture! Let’s explore…

It is highly likely to be the unit No.73 on my register; a French unit registered 683ZV75, and appears in that same livery of pale green with white roof. However, we should not jump to conclusions: this may indeed be a ‘new’ unit. Here’s a picture of the unit your picture just MIGHT be:

Hallelujah, I’ve asked the poster if the have any info. But they seemed to post lots of random photos of different makes of trucks.

This could still be a new NGC. I’m not entirely convinced that unit in your picture has either a white roof or a cream headlights panel (like No 73 has); it appears to be a uniform green all over. What do others think?

In the meantime, I’ve opened a temporary file on it with the designation No.96 on the register.

Good find Steve, so annoying when you cant read the number plate.
