:sunglasses: That’s a cracker! A 5MW I didn’t know about and a new picture to boot! On heavy haulage by the look of it. R

Chris Miller Transport from Preston - they were a well respected local company with crane/fork truck hire as well as some heavy haulage involved with machinery movements plus unit load/containers off Preston Docks.
Not a cheap company to hire!!
I knew these people when I was was working for Seawheel on Preston Docks in the late 60s

Yes, both NZ, Ken. The 5MW-cabbed ERF was a one-off multi-axle job for heavy haulage, I understand. The 2nd one has a 4MV cab with what looks like a Jennings pod on the back.

Hi Robert and Ken, i reckon the grey one could be Oz. Looks like vic , as in Victoria on the number plate. Maybe fairground motor looking at the surroundings and generator on its back.
Cheers. Colin.

There’s a welding mask hanging off the front of it, as if to remind him to get on with repairing it!

An increasing amount of irrelevant material is appearing on the ERF threads so I’ve bumped this thread up for those who’ve forgotten about this useful one! :sunglasses:

And West Coast mirrors

Bearing in mind that the west-coast mirrors could have come from a different make of vehicle!

I .m not sure what year this truck was manufactured Robert but I do know that my first contact with West Coast mirrors was 1970 when they were offered as an option at British Leyland Perth branch new trucks so I assumed with the Victorian number plate the mirrors were fitted in OZ.
Cheers Dig.

The top end ■■■■■■■ E-series would certainly have been impressive. I did some European work with an E14:320 and loved it. But the 465 bhp version pictured didn’t sell. I read somewhere (I’ve been trying to find where I saw it) that ERF only sold two 465 units. What I did find was the spec, which I have scanned for you below:

Thanks for the information it’s been an interesting read [emoji106]

Wincanton liked their ERFs and when I went back to Maltby on a new contract we had a yard full of ERFs.I took the photos in 1994/95.Some of the ex MFS drivers didn’t like the ERFs,they were used to the Scania synchro boxes. I was shunting full time and I remember a couple of them asking for a Merc apiece but they soon changed their minds after a trip or two over Woodhead loaded. They were dire.
