they could have cut it down by an hour if they didnt didnt go round all 25 drivers telling us who they were how many kids they had how long they had been drivng, and what their chuffing hobbies were .
They tried that on with us but none of us would cooperate so he didn’t bother in the end. The only reason it’s there as far as I can tell is to try and pad the course out to 7 hours so it is valid for the driver CPC.

They tried that first time around; before the second course, a couple of us pointed out we all worked for the same company apart from the 4 on the end who worked for subbies and were nearly always working for us. Surely I’m not the only one who feels a prat introducing myself?
Assessor at Gill Mill today doing the plant ops EPIC card renewals; Unlike tipper/mixer ones, there is a practical assessment. The plant op one is currently every 5 years but plans are afoot to make it every 2 years. How long before they fleece lorry drivers with this idea?
It’s a joke really as all EPIC or MPQC or whatever name they’ve changed to this week are is a commitee who’ve dreamt up this thing and made it compulsory for all member companies to adopt this training, but must use EPIC trainers…for a fee set by EPIC.

The tipper one used to be every 3 years but they changed it to 5 years when the driver CPC came in so it was the same as the CPC.

It’s a waste of time: Why make us watch patronising films about cyclist safety? Not many bikes riding around the quarries I’ve been to.

I couldn’t agree more, I only did it because I need the card for my work, getting a day of my DCPC was a nice bonus on top.

Trying to get on these courses is difficult and MPQC are useless helping you.I did mine with CPC4U ltd. Telephone 08432893211. They are based in Bishop Stortford but run courses over the country. Or try E- Mailing shirley@caldreford.co.uk.Phone 08458621698. These are based in Halifax. Some companies will give a three month exemption if you have a course lined up. They get you to do their induction. Hope this helps.
I am on my second 5 year card now.The last one ran out in May 2011 and I only got asked for it once. As I said, getting on these courses are difficult and the quarries and readymix firms are no help either. After my last card expired i was at a Cemex readymix plant on a mixer when they checked up to make sure it was in date, which they found out it wasn’t. Thats when they gave me the 3 month exemption. As with the DCPC this is another complete waste of time and money.

I’ve had mine since just before Christmas and I’ve used it quite a few times but that’s mainly because you have to show it at the weighbridge every time you go to the salt mine at Winsford.

The only time Dad was asked was just after an artic fell over at Hansons Kidlington. I’ve never been asked but have seen a sign at Lafarge Banbury saying anyone working for them has to have one.
All this safety and certain customers renowned for using caravans can collect coating wearing shorts and vests…
I have taken tippers into about 10 quarries and have never been asked for a card.I believe that the EPIC has been changed for something else equally useless no doubt.
I usually get asked for mine at Lafarge Flixton apshalt plant when im taking material TO them!!
I often wonder what they would do if I didnt have an epic card…would they turn the load away? I doubt it!
Has anyone endured the awful Tarmac safety film where some prat wnders around with a megaphone yelling “I’ve had a near hit!”
It’s irritancy is on a par with those Autoglass adverts.

The Tarmac batching plant in Middlesbrough has been known to turn people away if they turn up with aggregate deliveries without one. They only bother to ask if you’re not wearing the right PPE though so as long as you turn up with your hard hat / glasses / hi vis trousers etc. on then you don’t need to worry about having the card.

Got this course on Saturday letter says 8 till 5…will it actually finish at 5 or is it likely to be a little earlier
Hillhouse insisted that all ‘core’ drivers did this course, was done a couple of Saturdays ago. Have been working the quarries for about a year now and never been asked for it, but guy in front of me at Callander was!
No what time they got done?

The two I did were both done by 4. Treat it like a normal dcpc session; Just nod in acknowledgement, don’t start debates or share experiences and it’ll be over much quicker.
Just as pointless as the cpc rubbish
