For those who believe that growth is the only answer to today’s problems I suggest a good read for a little bit of enlightenment (pun intended)…

I can see the logic behind moving away from the consumerist mindset. For sure, we need to change our way of life from buying tat which is what is good for the country as people spend and we get growth to just buy what you need.

But in practice… Half of us would be out of a job if that were to happen.
i.e. no more shipping containers full of Xboxes or nerf guns or other crap.
Like it or not most of us depend on people buying junk for our livelihoods.

Also I still do not believe the climate is in crisis lol. Climate is changing yea, maybe we are even speeding it up. But it is not a crisis.

I havent read the book... But there is indeed an argument to stop to global expansion. *(I note Russell Brand recommends it....but all the same, its probably worth a look)*

I was more worried about the authors of the foreword giving cause for rejection!

Not at all !
The names are unfamiliar, but the movement isnt. A perfectly valid point of view is held there. Being a quiet and calm individual, always ready to avoid an argument, maybe I dont approve of their actions though.

(Or maybe I`m jealous of their youth and enthusiasm)

it seems part of Johnson`s promises are still alive. Remember the “high wage economy”?

Not being able to see a GP. Or having to wait weeks after spending ages getting through on the phone via their tiny window for calling.
Long ■■■ wait times.
Dismissive Doctors’ who just want you out the door as fast as possible.

What’s good about the USA system?
If a Doctor does not give you a good service then you do not go back as they are driven by market forces.

In the US you may get a better service as a private patient.
The USA as a whole is paying 50% more than us for their service. And they don`t all benefit equally.

Give the NHS £270bn and we would have a bloody Rolls-Royce of a service!
And we would all benefit from it.

But no, the Gov are running down the National service, to get you to call for privatisation.
And the Tory party funders get to make extra money from you.

Define ‘‘give the NHS’’.Who gives in an economy in which the highest earners pay proportionally the least tax. With a regressive purchase and local government based taxation system. Also based on minimising incomes.
In which the NHS is just a form of controlled rationed health care provision no different to the idea of the sub standard tied cottage
.To save employers paying the true living costs of their employees.
As opposed to the system ( so far ) enjoyed by Germans. Are you saying that the German system is inferior to ours because of the private insurance based component of its public/private hybrid service ?.
Which by definition means that health care costs are factored into wage demands and funding which can’t be plundered by the government to plug tax revenue shortfalls.

I believe a substantial number of nurses have done exactly that; moving from nursing to retail.
Thankfully we don’t need so many nurses & the queues at retail outlets will reduce helping the economy grow faster.

It is good to see the synergies as different Gov Ministers all strive for the same ends, isn`t it?

And since shop workers are often part timers, they would be ideal candidates for Coffey`s scheme to have the NHS staffed by volunteers. Daresay MPs will also be putting themselves forward during their holidays.

Lets help get the target of GP appointments within 2 weeks met. Thats 7 times better than under Labour when it was only 2 days, not 14!

There is no shortage of energy supply - just a shortage of everyday wages to pay for what used to be normal usage for millions of ordinary plebs like us… :unamused:
