English Test

russjp:
The IELTS in SK consisted of a seperate speaking section where you sat opposite another person and had to speak about 2 random subjects to them for set periods of time - my subjects were history and fashion - every truck drivers favourite topics of conversation FFS !!!

After that it was a full 4 hour classroom session in exam conditions doing the reading, writing and listening sections where you cant even go to the toilet without someone accompanying you - there were 3 white people in the room of 75 people including myself and i worked with the other two of them lol

Russ,
We had to speak for up to 2 mins on a random subject, mine was “Why I wouldn’t want to be a celebrity.”
I got as far as " I wouldn’t want to be a celebrity because." End of, my mind went blank, FFS, why can’t they let you speak on a subject you have an interest in or know something about, it was suppose to be about how well you speak, not how much crap you can make up. And our test was speaking into a computer, not even face to face.
IMO, a 5 min interview would be enough time for me to tell if somebody can understand & speak English, instead of this [zb]

Even some Canadians whose first language is English get caught out by the rules.
