Peter

So I take it no one watched the program call Trucks on the BBc in the late 80s?

Yeah i watched it…still got all the episodes on video.
I am not too sure what happened to it after the show ended…would love to know though.

Peter

Hi, the black Mack from the show “Truckers” belonged to my friends father, Kevin Canavan. He ran it on the continent for a few years after the show until it went in for a refurb and then sold to another chap in Darwen Lancs. Kevin then went on to own another Mack For heavy haulage use until that also was sold due to ill health. Unfortunately Kevin is no longer with us, but if I can find some pictures of the two Macks, I’ll put them on here!

Thanks for that info…i take it that the black mack is still around somewhere.

This is NSF 170T new, anyone know if its still around anywhere?

Hi This truck (1930 White Mustang) It came to GB in 1980 and did a tour promoting the Labatts beer, A few of us older chaps maybe saw it, I’ve put it on for you who did’nt get a chance to veiw it. It was a V8 petrol engine 135 BHP.

John.

I remember seeing this machine coming down the A64 near Killingbeck Hospital in the mid eighties, so I turned the van around and chased it back to Tetley’s Brewery in Leeds. It was on a nationwide tour promoting Labatt’s Lager. By chance, our American Car Club had been invited to the opening of a themed pub/diner off Burley Road, and the truck was scheduled to make an appearance. On the night, we turned up with about a dozen classic cars, the celebrity guests turned up, but the lorry was nowhere to be seen. It had apparently left to return to Canada. I got hold of a souvenir card and brochure and the technical info is as follows :- Chassis - White model WA122 cabover, serial number L101248, built 1948. Engine - White Mustang 150A/6 gasoline powered, in-line 6 cylinder, sidevalve, 386 cubic inch (about 6,450 cc), 135 hp. Transmission - White 5-speed non-synchromesh. Brakes - Westinghouse air. Bodywork - Designed by Alexis de Sakhnoffsky with hydraulically- operated tilt cab. Aluminium skin on ash frames. Trailer built on a Fruehauf low loader chassis. Acquired in 1977 and restored over a 7-year period by Bob Scott, returning to service in 1984. So now you know…

When the BBc where filming there where parts Kevin could not drive it and a stunt driver sadly drove it and some how got in reverse at about 30mph going foward, so I was the one that had to remove the box strip in and rebuild it and never again it was a right pain.

If I rember right, you could use any foward gear and put it in revese by a swich on the gear stick and it would all most go as fast foward as it would in revese.

Please correct me if Iam wrong.

john golding, theres a blast from the past, any pics or info on him anyone?

What livery was John Goldings trucks? is this it?

This livery is Paul R Maggs’ from Somerset, he too owned a Mack Ultraliner. John Goldings colours were a simular blue and cream.

Hi I am almost 100% certain that is not Paul Maggs Mack.
John Goldings colour were blue and white take a look at my thread 'Kenworths in the UK.
Gavin

it is Paul Maggs’, I remember photographing it at Truckfest, that’s one of his Scanias next to it.

Hi jamie, in answer to your question about the old girl DHY 974W. I run that very truck today as a wrecker. I’ve owned it for 20 years, previous to that it belonged to Dave stanway of walthamstow. Previous to that it belonged to John Golding. I have owned and repaired alot of whites over the last 30 years. if you click on our website, you can see the White on recent recovery jobs. www.vgnash.com

we also have Gerry Hill’s (rip) white YBK383V. We took Gerry to the Crematorium in Burnley on the back of her, His Last trip. Any interest in our comments will be recieved gladly.

Hi the reason that I said that I was 100% certain that the second pic up was not Paul Magg’s Mack is because it is a pic of a WHITE! no one spotted it ? Paul Maggs Mack is in Weston Super Mare.
Gavin

Paul Maggs couldnt say no to the salesman again, he seemed to run 1 of everything, but one of the smartest fleets around.took this in Chieveley Services, A34 Newbury about late 80s I think.

georgeking:
I remember Curries of Dumfries owning a MACK.

the P&S mack ended up with Pentus Brown of Leighton Buzzard then was sold to Australia, Browns had 3 of them all ex P&S. John Brown (RIP) the son of Pent was an american lorry fanatic, hence the paint jobs, i’m of the same mind about them as Bewick , i only drove one once so i not really qualified to speak about them but i did not find one redeeming feature on them. alright for a dwarf (can we still say that)

It’s what the Yanks say about a Mack that cannot now be said in this time of PC!

I see it has a “tear drop” trailer the same shape that is been hailed now as a revolutionary shape.I see Wincanton are taking delivery of another 25 and singing their praises!!! It just shows that all these new “ideas and designs” are just modern variations on long established themes. But in this instance its taken about 80 years to catch on!!! cheers Dennis.
