Emergency vehicles

I thought the principle of English law was that one was entitled to be tried by one’s equals. In which case refuse to pay and insist on trial by judge and jury, taking the further option if convicted of going to jail rather then paying any fine.

The potential cost to the KGB and surrounding bad publicity should result in the penalty being waived.

Go.

Was on jeremy vine the other week. He had a couple of traffic rozzers on and a paramedic. All said if it is safe to pull over then do so, but if by pulling over causes others problems then it is not safe. They also said if you cross the line at a redlight moving out of the way you can be prosecuted, and while you may use tbe very reason you crossed the line in your defence, if it goes to court you will be done for it

Has anyone got a link to a court case where a driver was prosecuted for this?

When I was in the London Fire Brigade many moons ago we were told that even on an emergency we had abide by normal driving rules i.e. could not speed could not go through a red light or go down the wrong side of the road etc but as long as there are no ■■■■ ups a blind eye would be turned to any breaking of the rules but if you where involved in an accident you would be charged the same any other motorist, as for red lights we were told to momentary stop and then proceed with caution if clear to do so and there’s a hell of a lot of traffic lights in London I’m also led to believe this evidently applies to green lights also , you can only proceed with caution if it is clear to do so, I think the operative words are “ to proceed with caution” an offence is committed if you put other peoples lives in danger… But boy was it fun.

Perhaps another job for pepipoo?

Hiya… saw one on tele the other night where they pull drivers in for not paying fines. this old chap
was driving along when some chap came the other way overtaking another car, the older chap pulled
into the bus lane to avoid a head on crash…old chap got nicked on camera for driving in the bus lane,
you could see what happend but the old chap still got nicked. any way to get money out of us!!!

Everything else that follows this opening gambit I judge as nonsense designed to engage an audience in a controversial topic by someone who either has a limited grasp on reality or is paid to pimp hysteria and the waving of ■■■■■■■ from their low IQ listeners…

Just sayin-albeit from my astoundingly high horse

As true as that may be dipper dave, the traffic bill were on to correct vine on his constant disbelief that you can actually get done for going over the line at a red light to allow an emergency vehicle through. I rarely listen to vine personally because the bloke really is in a different world and his topics are 99% of the time crap.

Assuming that was aimed at vine and not me?

But of course, our Jezza makes a living out of stirring the pot…

Or someone pretending to be from the traffic bill
That said I have no doubt its an absolute offence to cross a red light even when an emergency vehicle is up ones chuff, but when traffic in both directions has stopped its a judgement call to ease out of the way a bit (this may entail crossing the white line)or hang on till the lights change in your favour. Me I would choose to ease out the way and hope I don’t get some fan mail with my picture on it.

Sure these incidents are rare as an emergency driver would be trained to forward plan a move onto the opposite side of the road and fudge his / her way through as quickly / safely as possible.
