Eddie Stobart Trucks and Trailers (Episode 3)

So what do MSport’s own “HGV1-Drivers-come-Hospitality-Technicians” do when on tour? They advertised for one just last summer!
Dropped at their place a few times, nice fleet! Up til a couple of week ago, I didn’t know they ran rigids (lhd) when I saw them heading back to Dovenby from Carlisle. GIZZAJOB MALKIE!! :grimacing:

So the rally team drivers are the envy of all the other stobart drivers .

They must be on £7.50 p/h then

He (Bill) is ok to work with i use to work with him when it was Corby Chilled. And he can Shunt the trucks and put them on the bays First time. His attitude is to do with some of the drivers he has had to work with over time (not just stobbart drivers). By the way i Dont work for them.He use to go out on a run now and again for a rest.He has been shunting at Corby for 10 yrs i no off.He still has to go around checking temps ect. It keeps you fit as its a big yard with vehicles in and out all day long.He is welcolme to the job.

Muckaway:
The least entertaining episode of the series so far. Only really watched the bit with the biomass trucks and the twit (no a) shunter-I thought a shunter drove an old rig and moved trailers about, not marching about giving orders? That’s a weighbridge operators job (a great example go to Grundons at Faringdon) Switched over to see what fanny was presenting BBC News Channel when rally stuff was on, bored me considerably…

I was a yard shunter for 2 years, i had a clapped out old scania with emissions coming in through the gear box. I moved trailers from A-B, opened and closed doors, took fuel readings and done yard checks at the start of shift and end of shift. I did not walk 14 miles :unamused: in one shift as this fella says he does, cos if im walking 14 miles :unamused: in one shift who exactly is shunting?

He seems more like a coordinator marching about barking orders, probably an ex driver who has either lost his license or his bottle

what about all the fluids in a truck when they are up on those ramps ? could any damage be done to an engine ?

Do you not drive up or down any hills in your truck then■■?

You must drive up some pretty awesome hills

washy jnr:
It’s nice to see our lot aint the only firm that like to run around empty…Empty from Corby to Nottingham, load for Peterboro’ then empty back to Corby■■? :open_mouth:

He said he was held up at HINCKLEY for 40mins. Delivered Hinkley then collect

Malcolm Wilson runs Fords M-Sport Rally Team, his son Matthew drives for Stobart Rally, they tend to use the same pot for ■■■■■■■ in around ■■■■■■■ as my mate Simon who competes in the Abu Dhabi series all knock about together. Paul (chicken) Bird Motorsport also had links with Stobart.

I am surprised at some of the comments about the team drivers having to cook and put the awnings up, that is the main part of any Truckies job in motorcycling, F1 or even Formula Ford, mechanic or tyre technician first and the driving is a very small part of the job. Remember the story, it took them 4 days to reach Finland, 3 of those days were at sea :stuck_out_tongue:

they have one of these lifts at cargills on vicky dock at hull but no longer use it as it was always breaking down.
and what abou the bit were the guy gets a new scania with all mod cons,a sliding draw under the bunk,if that what they call all mod cons i dont want one.

Okey-Didley-Dokely:
This stobarts promoting stobarts, not promoting drivers and any driver who agreed to participate in the programme needs their head looking at.

I agree entirely with you - they asked me, I said ■■■■ off! - I assure you I need my head looking at already!

zippy!:
Would have been better if it visited a range of companies during the series.

Indeed. I really don’t think Stobart need any more publicity - they are hardly going to turn it down though are they?

It should cover transport as a whole, not just ESL.

As I say, at least there is something on TV that highlights (albeit badly) our trade & some of its issues…

Better episode than the others, and I saw the tanker “if it catches fire, it will burn” driver at Crick last week, poor sod will never hear the last of that one!

thats what i had been thinking :unamused: but then thought maybe i had seen it wrong first time, and thats why i thought about where the fluids ended up. :unamused:

Watched the programme and couldn’t help thinking that doing the rally trips seems a hell of a lot of hassle & graft just to say you’re ‘part of the Stobart Rally Team’. :open_mouth: No thanks

not for me either, bet there were alot of folk thinking that motorsport work, was all polished trucks, and nice clean shirts, good to see these lads, showing what the job really entails, i reckon they earn their money, i’m sure there is the odd perk though

on the whole, a decent episode, once you see past the tv sensationalism, apart from the,“yard shunter” the man clearly appears to be a ■■■■, and needs a course on, how to speak to people :unamused:
bloke in the truck looked like he wanted to get out and ■■■■ him.

I will probably be in a minority but I havn’t any desire to watch any ESL fairy tales. Don’t get me wrong its not that
I have anything against ESL, I think the whole thing is an exercise in playing to the camera, it does not reflect on the true state of our industry. This would have been a perfect platform to air our industries problems like the cost of fuel, cabotage, stupid regulations etc. However I do realise it probably would not make for good veiwing figures. From what I’ve read in the posts on this thread I dont think the public are going to improve their opinion
of our image from the series.

I didn’t watch it, but I doubt it will do anything for truckers image !

did anyone else hear Harry Hill on Steve Wright’s show taking the ■■■■ out of the cream cakes bit ?

Always handy for a bit of extra overtime if your truck is stuck on the ramp

Is it on harry hill tonight?

cant get over those lorry launch pads , they been in use in the states for years but had to laugh when chappy said ah ‘it’s pretty quick to unload, we can empty a trailer in about 20 minutes !’

20 minutes is quick ? be a lot quicker with a tipper or even that walking floor & you wouldn’t get the bulge in the curtains as it settles during transport either !

seems to me that the first episode day tripper / plane spotter & second episode mark dixon are the only two half sensible drivers stobarts have, looks like all the others refused to be on camera , thats why we’ve ended up with the likes of top gun Mo & tanker bomb drivers & the hilarious & mad JT :unamused:

I think that JT is best so far, lets be honest hes the only one liable to call a spade a spade.

If that lass on last night is a part time model then wow I have done well I must be living with a super model I didnt realise till last night though!
Like Quinny ive also met Ari Vatanen what a top bloke, met him on the RAC rally back in either 90 or 91 cant remember he was driving a Mitsubishi Galant at the time first one with 4 wheel steering and had rolled it, met him at end of the stage banging bits back straight ish!

Got a photo of me as a kid with Ari in a driving simulator, saw him a good few years later at an event and he actually remembered the day and a convo he had with my dad.
Either 88 or 89 we follwed the RAC round the country, 1 stage we were at the start and Juha was chuffing away on a cigar chatting to us, he got his call to get in the car (Lancia), cooly stubbed his cigar, put it in his top pocket and told us to come to the service park that evening to carry on, ended up being fed and watered by the Lancia team.

Loved the Rallying of the mid 80’s to mid 90’s, loads or stories and memorabillia from it.

Best era its gone down hill massivly in recent years, still spectacular sport but not for the people anymore, pluss suffers from the Loeb/Shumacher effect.
Still back to topic LOL
