Eating at truck stops

Avoid them personally apart from Lockerbie which has always been good any time I’ve been and I enjoy Penrith too, good breakfasts and the portions are generous. Can’t complain about Tebay especially on a winter’s night, comfort food. Gloucester looks good, although I’ve never had anything other than a sausage roll, 'cause it’s extortionate!

Yes a gas cooker and 24v microwave is the best way to go
Dont think you see many gas ovens nowerdays but I know they do those slow cook things now, perfect for cooking when you are driving
But I just find the bulk of drivers are to fecikgng lazy to cook, so they get ripped off at burger king moto hee hee

So true I’ve got gas hob also got microwave and invertor ready at home just waiting for new truck at end of month as it’s not worth getting fitter to do wires in the one I’m in as I’ve only got a month to wait

Totally agree, you can not only eat cheaper but a hell of a lot healthier which is more important to me than actual cost though. I live on rice and pasta meals which take very little prep or cooking time. I never touch fried food, KFC or Mc Donalds either, its all potential heart attack ■■■■■ food.
Awaiting the outcome of potentially buying a new truck soon and although it’ll come with a built in microwave my favourite is still my trusty foldaway gas burner…

Well I am pritty sure you worked there round about the time i did though

Did I take my Moffet licence with you?

Had an outstanding lamb and mint suet pud, mash and veg at Colsterworth before Crimbo - although it took some time to decide whether to eat it or climb it. Excellent!

Anybody else tried Dougs Diner since the new owners rocked up?
What are your opinions?

No sorry that was not me as I was not there long enough to be entitleded to that privalage of free training
But I was working there round about the time the DCPCS card came out

Yeh Penrith, but right next door, or next yard to NFT.

I was always on here banging on how good the home cooked food was by the last owner, who retired through ill health.

It was taken over, I have been back a couple of times since, and wondered what everybody else thought.

No,i’d gone by then

Most of the Msa,s have the noodle franchise outlets, for a motorway, its good food and value for money .
Thai curry, duck pancakes, Japanese chicken.
They do meal deals with crackers and a drink.
As said Cobham has many choices, I had an Indian takeaway, it was better than a restaurant meal .
The roast meat outlet is good, value.
Beaconsfield the same .
Pjm truckstop at Coventry airport does nice roasts.
Red Lion excellent curries.
Bridgwater cattle market truckstop is very good, roast dinners, normal or big size, good breakfast.
Shuts at 20.00, but two pubs next door do meals and then use voucher for breakfast.
The worst are Swindon, so called refurbishment which made no difference, poor food, I see drivers buying grub from supermarket nextdoor.
Ross on Wye cattle market, Portacabin cafe, food your dog wouldn’t eat.
Lincoln farm cafe, crucifix on the roof, bibles in the cafe, 200 trucks a night ,old school truckstop, big log burner out back to heat the water .
William Gilders at Teddington Hands, cafe not cheap, but good showers, pub next door.

Good yardstick, Chippenham TS=top notch across the board,Swindon TS=giant sack of cack.

The only time I eat in a truckstop is when I fancy a fry up and the only one I stop in its Chippenham, they do magnificent breakfasts. Not cheap but great quality. I always have a couple of tins of stewed steak and tins of potatoes & veg for those times in stabbed somewhere with an empty fridge

Newark livestock market truckstop is a good one, cafe food good, and the town is not far to walk if fancy a pint or numerous eateries .

Shepshed good one, but communal showers.Bar area to chill out in, the village is about half an hour walk away, lots of pubs .

Avonmouth, choose how many items you want for breakfast which is cheap and nice.
The village is not far to walk.
If cross over the train tracks, by the station, there is hotel/bar, contractors stay there.
Indian restaurant opposite and a Chinese takeaway .

If there a while, bus or train to Bristol .
