They’re cosmetic only, all the silencing and emissions ■■■■■■■■ is done under the cab, the chimneys are just tail pipes.
Shame really as the roar of the pipes was all that kept me awake through the barren wasteland west of the MB line

The MX has the same power as the DD and the same torque as the Kitty, so it must be the final drive ratio that makes it the way it is. It’d not a problem, it’s more of an observation really.
Daf horsepower and torque are different ive never seen one that can outpull another motor of the same power
Are we opening a book on how long before it needs a turbo?
gotta be honest mind you gonna be like a dog with two dicks …cos it does look very good…

In this case that just might be right.Cloggy flat lands power v Dozer power that’s designed to make a peacetime tank climb almost vertical walls of earth or an old American tractor motor designed to pull a load of farm equipment across a field the size of France.
Daf power relative to other ‘power’ is a case of perception. I remember testing a 530 Daf and it felt flat for a 530, but the journey and track times were very good. They do go very well, they just don’t make a fuss about it, perhaps that is why they’re so economical
Very diplomatic Mr Lee you know you wish it had a D8 lump under the bonnet. Sorry hood as we say in the dominions.

It’s not my first rodeo

Good looking machine you got there and (drum roll) a working radio , should save some effort in the hills during the coming season knowing when jarmy time is . Is she getting the hood mascot ?
Haven’t been up any hills yet, won’t be going until next May either as I’m have no chains and I ain’t in a rush to get any either
The duck is having a sabbatical, I’m thinking of powder coating him in black chrome, but as yet undecided, so until I make up my mind he is sat at home.
Hi Mark, just read your report there for November. Good, fair play. I don’t think you are far off with your thoughts regarding voltage drop and warning light issues.
After spending the past two years driving a max force 13l and to many warning light and false fault code issues, I was glad to see the back of three of them.
As mentioned by Pat 300,000 miles seems to be the figure that kicks the problems into overdrive.
The past few months we had a Pete 389/589( brain dead) with a ■■■■■■■ and for the first 20,000 miles the engine light was on all the time, but the motor was a huge improvement over the Maxforce, the truck rode and handled a lot better than the International also.
I am glad to say as of Monday 4th of November I won’t need to deal with it. Got myself a job fitting in a workshop on 360 excavators and pile driving equipment.
They are currently using a third party for moving the machines around right now, but are looking to be self sufficient so may be tooling up with a tractor and trailer shortly.
I will do the odd weekend at the Postal Service though as one of my friends just picked up extra runs. Daytime trip Orlando to exit two in Georgia on 75 for an Atlanta relay, sweet number that, and in a Volvo as well.
It always pays to keep your hand in, and options open.
Regards Paul.
Thanks Paul and good luck with the new job.

Thanks Mark.
I appreciate it, a little nervous its been a while since I have been on the tools, but looking forward to some decent home time, family time and a social life once again.
A few sore knuckles, dirty hands and a sunburnt head to look forward to also.
Regards Paul.
Don’t forget the aroma of hydraulic oil
How long have those 579’s being out on the market? Until reading this post for the first time a few weeks back I’d never noticed one on the road at all, but in the past two weeks I’ve been seeing hundreds of them per day. Just like the new KW T680’s, their numbers have rocketed very very quickly since launch, I think they’re a good looking truck and I like them inside, certainly makes my old 2005 T600 look very basic. Its just a shame that so many new trucks are plagued with chronic unreliability with all the DEF associated stuff.
I like Volvo’s for example, but I know quite a few owner drivers and company drivers with them and they’ve all been hideously unreliable and almost sent one owner driver under financially as he propped up the American motel business near Volvo dealerships, rather than earning revenue with his truck. In the end that truck got taken back by Volvo and they shipped it back to their factory for an investigation as they couldn’t understand why the same thing kept going wrong again and again. He now has another new Volvo and my facebook newsfeed yet again has numerous reports of “DEF Fault” “Engine shut down” “Engine power downrated due to DEF sensor” “Back in the motel again” “Dont know how much longer my bank balance can take this!” etc etc etc.
Surely the glider kit solution using an old tech pre smog zb engine would be better for the average owner driver.
Indeed it would, but Environment Canada has closed some of the loopholes, they are titled the same year as their engines, so you pay the same price as new for a 2001 truck, the finance companies are reluctant to finance them and a lot of carriers set an age limit of five years on O/O trucks.
Hey robin i was asked Mark about the DEF problem a few weeks ago as my old Freightshaker was for ever having problems and I was curious as to why and he thinks might be to do with the fact we run 12v over here 24 back in europe and simply not enough power there to cope with all the electrics.
Had a strange one Friday coming homed though. Just after I set off from Moose Jaw in the morning the dash flashed up for engine regen so ofcourse pressed the switch to let it do its thing but for the 10 - 15 mins of it I could only run at 100 kph and not 109 not had that happen before and it wasnt a cold night thursday and i had 1/2 a tank of DEF on me
