driving assessment

ROG:

bald bloke:
What i done once was ask the assessor very nicely if i could pretend i’ve forgotten my card and do a print out and to my surprise he said yeah no probs i know the score so fair play to him he was a top bloke.

Thats what I meant by …

unless you find a non-legal way around it

Just thinking aloud like but when on rest are you not free to dispose of your time however you see fit? Also if you are not being paid would that HAVE to count as work/driving? I personally don’t see any difference between moving yourself with a rented, tacho required, vehicle and a short, up to an hour, driving assessment unless it is being paid for.

I would draw the line at making a full day out of it or beneficial contribution (delivery/collection) to the company doing the assessment.

The regulations are specific on what can be regarded as private, non commercial, driving

Is a driving assessment for a job regarded as commercial or private ?
Is it done in a LGV over 7.5 tonnes ?

Its a difficult one, annoying though things are its still part of our job requirement, which should in theory result in decent enough paid jobs to cover such requirements, and yes when needed i’ve worked such things into my legal hours, you win some and lose some.

Some interesting ways round it above, however in the event of a serious prang and say for example the assessor being a decent bloke allowed the driver to do ‘‘lost card’’ printouts, when the applicants digi card is downloaded and he is found to be driving illegally wouldn’t there be some serious repercussions all round, driver, trainer, agency, lorry owners, etc.

We all know you wouldn’t get the assessment in practice without having all licences and digi card with you, and as ever VOSA are nobody’s fool and would take this extremely seriously IMO, admittedly a small risk but not sure i’d be putting my head in the noose if i was the trainer.

Is there some long-seated fear that your current employer will sack you if they find out that you DARE to look for another job?

There’s another school of thought that says “A boss might offer a raise to retain key staff when they become aware of those staff looking elsewhere”.

Have a bit of confidence in the value of yourself to the current company. :grimacing:
If you normally work 5-6-5-6 patterns, then just take a damned day off, and be done with it. :sunglasses:
