Didn’t the drivers entitlement change a few years ago, where new drivers no longer had 7.5 tonne entitlement on their car licenses anymore? If someone now has to have a C1 license and a drivers cpc, I am guessing they are having to dig into the HGV pot now to find drivers. Most 7.5 tonne work in these parts is shop delivery, or home delivery (Argos) or last minute ‘panic deliveries’. Pays not much more than FLT or factory work.

Accepting 7.5t “Bensons For Beds” type jobs when you’re at least a class 2 puts you on a suckers list. A bit like those ones that retards get put on if you fall for cold callers and charities.

£10/hour (sounds good), umbrella (not so good then), 05:15 start, 8 hours a day (so crap money after umbrella has robbed you), and you"must be physically fit."
It’s a “recycling job” which means you probably wont drive but will be a dustman or if you’re really unfortunate, hand sorting peoples’ rubbish into one of those congestion causing “pigeon hole” trucks.
This is the sort of crap work that is used to create the shortage illusion.
Slightly off subject, very worrying for me, being a family man, thinking they are out and about on the road network.i currently work as as shunter driver, we have many drivers come into our yard, what worries me is drivers who seem to have hardly any control of there vehicles, reversing straight into a wide open space is difficult.i know it’s not all(before you all jump down my throat) you can tell which is a foreign driver because they really do struggle.
What sort of test do they actually do n what’s the standard like because it’s a genuine concern knowing these drivers are out n about on the open road
Because now you are taught how to pass the test not how to drive. Learning how to drive comes after you pass the test.
From what I witness daily that’s evident, looks like some have only been in it 10 mins

I was talking to someone only a few weeks ago who has just passed their class 1 and i couldn’t believe what they were telling me. Test in an auto with a reversing camera on the back to see where the box is! Unbelievable, you don’t need much skill to pass in an auto with a reversing camera
Like i said there is a GOOD driver shortage but plenty of muppets with licences, unfortunately !

That’s changed, test vehicles are now laden. 5t for Class C and 8t for CE.

There is a driver shortage BUT no one notices because so much of it is cancelled out by foreign hauliers doing the work the brit firms would do if THEY had the drivers to (and compete)
as long as Drivers only getting 3 or 4 Shifts a week cant you say you are short of Drivers.

In UK you pass test on autos and reverse camera? No wonder there is shortage of good drivers.
This is freaking awesome, autos and camera. What the hell will a driver do when he/she had to back up without camera and 4 over 4 manual trans.?

Absolute rubbish!
I’ve seen about 20 drivers come and go at our place since January. Some are good and stay and as for others i wouldn’t trust them with my nans shopping trolley.
Just because you have a licence doesn’t mean you can drive.

Driver turnover at your place doesn’t tell us facts or a uniform definition of what ‘good’ is, it’s purely based on your opinion.
A licence is probably all your TM or whoever needs & bums on seats to get the goods delivered…![emoji15]
