Under the current system of the DCPC I do have issues as should any professional driver. It is like sitting in a primary school class and in most cases the instructor is teaching his granny to ■■■■ eggs. There is a difference between the initial DCPC and the 35 hours of training required every 5 years. The level it is at is below basic knowledge so therefor an experienced driver will or certainly should already know it in which case it comes down to either a paid day off or an expensive self funded waste of time. Either way it is a good money spinner for the training companies. Swap it for having to have an ADR and it becomes more worthwhile to attend a session and worth having.
The initial could easily be improved especially the theory bit - make it a test on the regs
The periodic needs to be a compulsory 7 hour session on the regs every 5 years along with a scenario quiz paper to ensure the driver knows their stuff
