Diversion into restricted roads

drover:
That’s odd, very unusual to have a one way limit like that?

There’s one on the stretch of road passing Longleat. There’s no weight limit if you’re heading towards Warminster but there is if you’re heading away from it towards Frome.

There is also one in Bath, you can go down the hill, but, not up!!!

There’s also a (or used to be a ) one way restriction between Elsenham and Stansted Mountfitchet.

7.5t without the usual except for access / loading plates and also lorry watch signs attached when you enter from Stansted, coming from Elsenham there are no signs.

I’ve known the A12 Witham bypass to be closed before and traffic diverted through, over a weak bridge (7.5t) that is reinforced for the occasion by some grey spray paint over the sign.

The bridge over the a34 is 7.5t one way, if you’re heading through Weston on the Green (B430) to go south on a34 it’s weight limited.
There is a sign before the turning telling you that, but it’s not on the main sign. It also says enforcement checks.

The A420 from the A46 through Wick has a temporary 7.5t weight restriction in place while a bridge in Bath is being repaired!!!

Although access for businesses is allowed, all vehicles have to go via the A4174 to the M32 to join the M4!!

the nodding donkey:
Can you take a 16’ double decker under a 15’ bridge, when it’s on an 'official’s diversion?

…You might be mislead into attempting that, if said bridge is then not marked - eh?

I’m thinking “disused railway lines” here, “tapering footbridges” as well…

passing under this bridge on the hard shoulder had it below the 16’6" limit for “unmarked”, meaning that if you hit it with a lowloader setup of 16’4" - it is still presumably your fault as a driver for hitting it…

Did any driver ever get away scot-free on the back of “Bridge wasn’t marked officer!” or "The official diversion said come this way, and I didn’t want to go down the 7.5t street, because I clearly would NOT be getting away with that over the roadside general mustards hovering there…"

The emission zone in Bristol is starting in November, If the M5 south over the Avon bridge is closed or further on traffic will be diverted along the A4 Portway into Bristol. When you get to the suspension bridge the zone starts with no escape so what happens about the fine then.

You’ll probably get a fine, but, you should be able to appeal and contest it, citing the diversion.

There may also be a clause, if traffic is diverted from the M5, the ulez will be suspended.

WRONG If you come off the A34 to go north on the B430 you don’t cross the bridge

Is this the section of A4147 from Hemel to St Albans ? Streetview shows a blue sign telling of the weight limit on bridge outside the Green Man pub.
Weirdly, street view looks like it’s in a thunderstorm just as it goes over the m1 section of that road.
Doesn’t seem to be any signs on the reverse approach (into Hemel)

Yep thats the one, blue sign, then 38t sign on bridge behind a bush and nothing coming the other way. Yeah looks like a rainy day when the google car went there

Drive on the opposite side of the road problem solved

No, he’s correct. There is no weight limit on the bridge if you come off the A34 going South and proceed to Weston On The Green. There IS a 7.5 tonne weight limit on the same bridge if you leave Weston On The Green and want to go South on the A34.

The whole purpose of said weight limit is to stop heavy vehicles using the B430 to bypass the almost routine congestion on the Southbound M40/A34 junction at Bicester.

Edit : Never mind, Roymondo pointed it out.
I think it was Muckaway who said (a few years back) that the residents of Weston wanted the weight limit both ways on the bridge
