There’s no legal requirement to do a printout unless you need to make a manual entry on it, for instance if you’ve had to run over your driving time because of a traffic hold-up and need to write an explanation on the printout.
Under normal circumstances there’s no need to take a printout.

Not necessary, unless you are relying on article 12 or an infringement
