Digicard and paper chart

Looking for some advice from you guys n gals please.

I started the day off in someone elses lorry with a digi tacho, done about 30mins driving and 30mins other work. Got back to the yard and took my card out as i was ment to be going back on to my own lorry with paper chart, the crane was being serviced so couldn’t do alot so i put a paper chart in and stuck it on break straight away as i had nothing to do so wanted to get rid of 15mins. Got called in to the office and was told the crane wont be sorted for alittle while as they’ve found lots of things need doing, they then told be to take out the first lorry again with a digi tacho in. I took the paper chart out and then put the digi card in the other lorry and set off. Done about 40mins driving and 30 other work. Once back my lorry was fixed so put the chart back in showed 30mins other work (checking and strapping down the load) then set off, later on i had a 30min break.

My question is, did the 15min break i had on the paper chart count because i put the chart in straight away put it on break?

I cant see anything wrong with what i’ve done but just wanted to ask to see whether i have ■■■■■■ up or need to write anything extra on the back of the paper chart, i wrote on the back at the end of the day that i was on digicard in the morning.

Thank you very much if anyone can help.

Sounds legal enough, though it’s good that you wrote an explanation on the chart

Thanks mate, really cant be doing with anymore infringements.

Looks okay to me, although I would have just binned the paper chart after the 15 minutes and made a manual entry on the digi to cover the period instead.

Well funny enough i did think about doing just that, but i remember you saying many times on here about not throwing charts away or covering up etc, so i thought well i’ve shown something on a chart so better keep it really.

I know what your saying but in those instances I was referring to charts with driving on them.

If you had thrown that chart, and made a manual entry to cover the time your digi card was out of the unit, who would have even known about the chart? No missing mileages or anything like that which would be the case in throwing away a chart with driving on it.

When I was running over the water I sometimes used to put a chart in overnight just to record my rest, when I would be starting later the next day than I did that day, then put another new chart in in the morning. After a month or so I used to bin those.

Yeah i see what your saying, i havn’t been doing this long and the other week i got a ■■■■ load of infringements for all of my first lot of charts, for not putting the end date on, i never knew i had to put an end date on them, got abit of a bollocking over that, the only other one was 4hrs 33mins driving, which i didn’t see as too bad and neither did they  . So at the moment i’m paranoided like you would not believe, so just trying to be ultra careful.

I would also bin the empty card, and would be careful of creating two records which may not match.
