Digi tachograph law

Carryfast:

Were there even analogue tachos in 1923?

Yep. Just had to do it the old fashioned way notebook and a surveyor’s wheel
I heard the inspectorate would regularly pull people over to ensure there wasnt too much wear on the wheel which would indicate someone has not taken a break.

I was being serious though. I have always been under the assumption that Carryfast quit driving in the mid 1990s.

Employment was terminated in 2000 the bit in between was ‘very complicated’.Starting out as a disciplinary matter ( refusing to handball loads again ) and suspended on full pay and defended by the Union ending up as termination of employment on medical/h and s grounds.
Regarding a situation that the Union’s stupidity/complicity had put me in.They couldn’t make it up.
The last truck I drove was an early 1990’s Merc 2534.I didn’t drive anything newer than that.
Digi tachos became mandatory in 2006.
I’ve never actually seen or used a digi tacho.

But I do know that the answer to the OP’s question is manual entries as required to show a full 24 hour record from when the card/chart was put in.

Last time you drove a truck I was like half way through primary school. :grimacing:
I’ve only ever used a digital tacho.
Was there many automatic trucks in 1999? Because now like 90% of trucks are auto. :grimacing:

Oh and Carryfast a lot of places require you to not only use digital tachos but also phone apps to keep track of hours.

Can you just start driving again so you can start posting rants about how the industry has all gone to crap.
Edit: Well I guess you do that anyway but be funnier if you was actually dealing with it lol.
I just picture you as a bit of a caveman lol.

Bit off topic but at Tesco RDC there is a booking in system at the gates. It is bascially a computer touch screen. You fill in all your details yourself so the office dont have to. Some of the older drivers really hate it. I was walking past the entrance to go home one day and some old driver in his 60s was screaming at the thing and hitting it. Complete meltdown because he had no idea how to work the touch screen booking in system.

I’ve done perhaps four printouts in the last 5 years, yet every 6 weeks or so I have to replace the roll because some muppet doesn’t know that you can see the activities on the head just the same as a printout at the push of a button.

I’ve now taken to leaving it empty but carrying spare rolls in my bag. Petty really as I certainly don’t pay for the paper, but it just bugs me.

It’s an offence not to to have paper in the printer and a spare roll. It’s like dates on fire extinguisher’s - A very easy donation .

No, very few. Up to a point a few years later it would have been normal to go a whole career without ever driving an auto. Closest for many was Mercedes Powershift, and that was just a manual controlled by driver electronically

Really? Look that up and then come back to me.

In our case a Powerliner with the proper manual shift option. They needed the EPS because they had managed to make a gear box which needed more effort to use with its obstructive synchros than a clutch and usually the linkage broke before the driver’s arm did.

That’s what I use in the seldom times I’ve [zb] ed up, a print out with a written record on back if needed, like the old log book icons and method. (showing my age  ) and they have been accepted with nothing said…it is a record and better than nowt imo.

Only ever done one manual entry, and made a complete arse of it.
I know it ain’t rocket science, and is undoubtedly ■■■■ easy…but I could not muster up the enthusiasm and interest needed to learn how to do it to be quite honest…

Do you need me to do an instructional video for you? What with me now being the oracle of all trucking knowledge. First video is free. And if lucky I’ll give you a flash

Nah you’re ok mate, the last pic you put up aimed at me wearing that rubber glove, with a menacing look, scared me off. :open_mouth:
So please don’t post a vid of you making any type of entry, …manual or otherwise.

I have known a few sneaky drivers who have come close to driving time so they take the card out for the last few miles.

Thereby going from a drivers hours infringement to tachograph Fraud, the ■■■■■ would hit the fan if they were stopped, as every time they download the vu when I have been checked.

To be honest, see what some of the irish guys get up to and you would see that as tame.

Tho to be fair anyone running bent was much better at it than that.

I dont think you are allowed to mention specific companies on this board in relation to potenially breaking any rules. And I have no proof anyway.
But it is well known sterotype that irish firms often run bent and dont take the rules so seriously. Maybe its an unfair sterotype. But ah well.

Here’s one you may know though. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■

Feel free to start mocking me for some random slight I have said.

Unbelievable, pull up an 8 year old story to attempt to justify your ill thought out bordering on racist post!
I’ll take an educated guess that not only are you not very bright you aren’t a driver either, some of the absolute garbage that you appear to spend your life posting on this forum shows you up for exactly what you are… A Troll.

So instead of an 8 year old story it’s now an 18 year old one…

Don’t wind him up he’s a strange one, he was posting pictures of his driving licence yesterday.
He’s certainly a suitable case for treatment!

What does the age matter? You guys probably haven’t driven a truck in a decade yet your opinion still counts. :grimacing:
Your right. Everyone in the industry knows Irish hauliers have a stellar reputation my bad.

I could keep posting more but all I said is ‘some irish’ guys. I know some local guys who are dodgy as hell. Usually they dont do long distance work though.
