Bowyer Brothers were touched upon but Boalloy went through some tumultuous times with this chap not far away!Gerald Broadbent started working for Boalloy in 1958 and was probably the foremost figure in post war British bodybuilding. He combined a wealth of engineering skills with a knack of knowing what the market wanted. He was singularly responsible for the concepts behind of most of Boalloy’s products. A colleague once described him as a “fine designer and eloquent communicator”. Gerald was very well thought of amongst the Boalloy staff, Mick (current workshop manager) said “Gerald walked through the workshops every morning at 7.30am and always had the time to speak to the staff – he knew everyone by name. He was one of a kind, a true gentleman.”
He won 3 design council awards during his time at Boalloy and eventually became one of the judging panel.
Gerald left the company in 1992 and started his own consultancy firm. He died on 19th December, 2014, aged 86.
Apart from the ERF LV and A series ERF Gerald was responsible for:
Tautliner
Insuliner
Fineliner
Linkliner
Railliner
Seven5liner
EurolinerI don’t see many other men having such a profound effect on our industry
Correct me if I’m wrong but I think Broadbent designed the very early LV cab, which in turn was redesigned by someone else. The chassis was designed by Ernest Sharatt IIRC. The A-series was designed by Alan Turner. Ro

nah ! too high Dan’l you won’t be able to see over the top if you were stood on the platform ! Here is a shot of some of the many TASK tri axles we ran which gives you some idea of the headboard I was on about. They strong and I don’t recall any of them suffering damage in service.York trailers used to use steel headboards but Cranes stick with wooden ones right into the tri axle era. Cherrs Denz’l.

I take extreme exception to your slur on my vertical height ROF so much so that I have contacted my local " Seven dwarfs vertically challenged association Snow White chapter" for advice ! And for your info if I stand on the rolled up sheets placed behind the 4 foot ( not the 5 foot one!
) headboard I can just see over the top so there Pal put that in your pipe and smoke it !!
