Constantine.
As others have said, you took the right course of action .
I wonder if the office staff have got blog on about being in on a Saturday in the first place?
Also they may be like alot of British managers, full of their own importance, dont like their idle paradise being disturbed and need a superior manager to decide if they need the toilet.
Ohhhh the Peter Principle!
Hey all quick update,
Found out it was diagnosed as sunstroke supposedly, so luckily nothing serious. The main thing in the grand scheme of things.
In other news, I’ve been prepared by agency to note that I am very unlikely to be ever going back. So that’s ■■■■■■ all of my training plans to shot as they have nothing for a weekend wannabe otherwise bar this placement. Not much call for a C2 driver with no other skills and limited experience in reality.
So basically that could’ve hampered everything I wanted to do in one hit. Potentially ruining me ever coming back on the road full time.
May have done the right thing overall in most of our eyes, but in one easy turn, I’ve overall ■■■■■■ my own “life plan” up for good.
Really pleased with myself obviously

You still did the RIGHT thing. It’s just a shame it’s come back and spoiled things for you.
Get yourself out and about round local companies and see if any can help you get weekend work.

Typical agency, sticking up for their drivers doing the right thing, spineless ■■■■■■■■
Sign up with all the agencies around your area and something will come up. While doing that, canvass the local hauliers as well as you never know.
Lastly, don’t be too down about it. I spent my own money and got my Class 1, 8 years ago when I was 26 and I’d never driven commercially. First job I was out for an agency in a 7.5 Tonner, easy for a cocky Class 1 new pass eh? Wrong. I sideswiped a car with the tail swing when I turned left at some traffic lights and scratched the doors and took the mirror off. Didn’t even know I’d done it!
I pulled up further on and surveyed what I’d done and thought I was going to be sick. All the money and time and my career was over on the day it had begun. Needless to say I was working the week after but for a different company and somewhat less cocky about my abilities.
Chin up buddy, it’ll all be right soon enough.
Oh and yes, you definitely did the right thing.

Where do you live Pal, if near me I will have a call around boys I know, Drivers with some common sense are hard to find…and you did the right thing. i am sure a few here will agree with me.
Good luck with the search, Print Cv’'s and go door knocking and sod the agencies off.
You where on a hiding to nothing ,if you had carried on and something serious had happened to your mate ,you would have been crucified by the office and H&S…But because you acted in his best interests and all is ok ,you are still crucified …What you did was correct …Main question is can you sleep at night ? Yes you can ,so ■■■ the office clowns

Firstly i’m glad to hear the old boy is OK.
Secondly you did absolutely right as far as any of us untrained medical staff can try to judge something like this, yes in hindsight you might do things slightly differently but there’s never a pint of hindsight when you want one at the time.
Thirdly the office staff where you were working are a bunch of arses, and if i were you i would write to the chief general manager there a letter outlining what really happened if they definately no longer require your services, it may not get your weekend job back but he/she will then have a version of events which they won’t have been appraised of by the chinless wonders in the office.
Fourthly i agree with the poster above who suggested something uselful like a proper first aid course be part of the DCPC instead of the complete waste of time it currently is.
Hello Gentlemen,
Thank you for your replies and encouragement.
It’s gone wrong for me for the time being, but ultimately the gentleman concerned is ok and I think I’ll take that away with me as an experience for my later years, hence when I can make it back onto the long road.
A very good driver on here got in contact and has tried to pick up my spirits and get it all back into perspective, going to be a hard slog without the extra work coming in though in all seriousness.
M1cks - I’ll try to get around the locals, but with the other job, I never have any free time to pop in an office, unless it’s a Sat/Sun if they are open, I suppose someone might be able to give me a yes/no answer. Construction hours are as good as driving hours.
Hence where dare I say it the agency came in handy to get me some work when I wanted it. But in the old days I did a permanent sat night shift driving for 5 years, so I can’t see why I can’t do it again in reality.
I think in essence if I had a Class 1 ticket, it’d be a lot easier for the weekend work cover. Something to concentrate on getting then
MikeCunn - I could be hard on the agency, but I suppose going ■■■■■■■■ on the client means you lose the contract and I don’t think I would ever want all the other agency workers losing their job over my job. And the agency has been good in all other instances:
They told me to sit tight and not quit my permanent work as there was not enough temp work in all honesty around
They said they don’t have temp to perm work, so wouldn’t want me to try that through them, even though adverts said they had it
They’ve given me references for full time driving jobs I’ve gone for, how good they were I don’t know but at least I had someone corroberating my claims on the CV
And they always told me in advance work they had or whether I’d be on standby, only been on standby 3 times up to now! The job I used to do is viewed as ■■■■, but its good experience and alright/good money for what I do!
On the sign up for agencies around the area. I had done that with lots in my county, no-one ever contacted me…even though they said they would, this one is in another county to me and found me work straight away and always had done to date with this one role.
So we’re going to have to discount this way of working, canvassing the poor locals will be the next thing then! What will they think is coming through the gate!
3 wheeler - I’ll send you a PM and see if I am close. I’ve got good common sense in construction, but in driving Did you read the beginning OP In all seriousness if people show me or tell me what they want I can usually do that without issue or shouting all within the reasons of physics of course. Listening is easier than talking over others is my attitude and you seem to get further with that attitude too.
Norb - Cheers bud, I always sleep bud, usually tired so need my beauty sleep, like the rest of you boys always got to be moving somewhere and if you don’t it could spell disaster. Again I’m glad the guy was ok and back to normal, so that was the best thing I can take from all of this.
Juddian - I’m definitely going to get clarification next week and if that’s the case then I’ll burn the bridge by doing that and like you say it won’t get the role back.
I think I’ll get me refresher course booked through St. John’s its due soon and I’ll have all my DCPC assigned to other things at the moment, unless I wait for the card to come in and then do one on the 2014-2019 refresher period. One to consider.
Need to check whether you can do a course during 2014-2019 for the 35 hours in one year and then do another set of courses in say 2015 for the 2019-2024 period? One for the trainers to be questioned on I reckon.
Keeping my chin up as high as it’ll go at the moment

If anyone here hears of anything half decent in the Essex area please let Constantine know, I know the chap and he certainly deserves a good shot at this. Cheers chaps.
Thanks 8wheels,
Still looking every night when I can get home for finding that new challenge! Shame I couldn’t get the skip job either!
I saw undercover boss last week with Biffa! RORO looks the way forward, yeeehaaaawwww is all I could think of listening to the driver talk to the MD. Waiting to watch the end to see if he was asked to leave.
Based upon the above if he keeps his job I know I can do this job well and will get a break one day doing something. Now where’s Mr Smythe’s number and Arla’s number again!
