What’s the economy like up in Sweden at the moment?

Hi NMM.I take your point BUT the difference is that i emigrated to Sweden and before that Holland and have ALWAYS had exactly the same salary as a local.Always paid full social contributions in the country where i lived and spent my money in that country aiding the economy of my chosen place of residence.Plus i have adapted to the ways of life and learned the language and customs of my chosen country so as to fit in with the society as fully as possible.Mike
That’s probably missing the point anyway. In general the motivation for Brits to move to other countries to live and work is different to those leaving other countries to live and work here as is the motivation of their employers. In our case it is just a transfer from one developed western economy to another for whatever reason.
Whereas in the case of immigration here it’s usually all about those from underdeveloped much poorer countries looking to take advantage of moving to a richer more developed one and the employers wanting to take advantage of their lower expectations in living standards to hold down local labour costs.IE I don’t think that there’s many Brits moving to Asia or Eastern Europe or Africa to work unlike vice versa. It’s also unreasonable to expect any immigrant group to integrate regardless of which country they’ve moved from and to.
IE most large scale immigrant groups stay close to their original ethnic roots wherever they decide to live. The difference is it’s just a co incidence that it’s easier for the Brits to integrate in places like Northern Europe,Scandinavia and North America and the colonies than it is for those from other parts of the world to integrate in those countries just like it would be more difficult for us to integrate in places like Africa,Asia,or even Spain. In which case whenever the Brits have lived in those places it’s usually ( rightly ) been on a non integrationist segregated basis. That’s because basically the Brits are mainly ethnic Northern European/Scandinavian based anyway. While North America,Australia and New Zealand are basically British colonies at least so far.

I Totally agree Mike, was going to post something similar, but a big old chunk of steak with my name on it was calling me from the kitchen
We expats get a lot of bad press from those that have preceeded us and tried to force British ideas on their adopted countries, I use the when in Rome method, although not many Canadians palare Italiano I think that the ones who refuse to give up their British ways are missing out on a lot of things and more likely to fail and return to the UK
However the situation for us is slightly different than it is for the exotics, they don’t go to a country to fit in and have a better life, for the most part they go to get as much as they can from the country and send as much as possible back to their home country and they don’t care who they tread on to do it
Most of us on here are perfect examples of how immigration can work, if done the right way. easier for us in Canada as we don’t have teh language barrier, but in your case and many others, learning the language and rspecting the customs of your adopted country is the only way to do it, shame that you’re in the minority

Blimey nmm in that case you’d probably find the winters a bit cold there living in a tent and get fed up with having to go out and hunt for your dinner on a horse using a bow and arrow. While I’d bet you’d find having to speak all the different native American languages a bit more difficult than trying to make them understand Italian.
Hi NMM.I agree that a ‘‘big ol steak’’ would take precedence over anything on here.It made my omelet look rather sad.
As you and the ‘double drive god’ mentioned immigration for brits is a bit different anyway. Our priorities are not always the same.Yes money is important but quality of life and environement is something which draws us equally.
I have no problems with anyone moving\working\living in other countries whatever their ethnic backround. My biggest beef is the way companies, and to a degree governements[by being lax and turning a blind eye]have latched onto this way of keeping costs down.Yes,have a foreigner working for you BUT the law should be in place whereby he\she is paid exactly the same as a local and also is obliged to pay full social contributions in the country of employment, not be employed from their country of origin on a self employed basis giving them the option to pay minimal contributions in their own country and contributing nothing to the country of employment, and the employer paying and contributing nothing to the country of employments economy saying ‘‘it’s not my problem, the’re self employed’’.
Carryfast.I don’t think they would have problems in the winters. If you see pics of them they all seem to be ‘‘well padded’’,maybe it’s the steaks.and they all have chainsaws
Deeireland. The economy in Sweden is good but they have always been seen as a model of caution and fruality where economics are concerned. Also i live in the richest part of Sweden,[work and industry wise]as the mining sector up here is considered like oil is to Norway.Yes they have unemployment and problems but seem to cope better than many countries. The cost of living is comparible to Europe but as has been mentioned on here so many times you can’t put a price on ‘‘quality of life’’.I just work part time so am slightly different.I just took a truck to Danmark for a mate, left it for renovation and flew home,5 days work and i got 10,000 krone.so why should i work full time.Mike
I thought Finland was Euros?

Thats brightened my day up!! lol.
Hi Harry.Finland is Euros but i live in Sweden and Sweden and Danmark have retained their own currency.Norway also has its own currency but is not part of the EU.They all are part of scandinavia and have certain special relationships amongst themselves economically and politically[a bit like the old Benelux].As 70percent of Swedens economy is based upon export, with the EU and China the biggest trading partners a lot of commerce is done in Euros and dollars. At the moment this is hurting exports due to the krona being one of the strongest currencies around. But joe average[like me]is paid in krona app 11kr-£1.Mike
Ps NMM.what was the steak like,i’ve just had an elk steak tonight
It was very nice, a nice medium rare, very juicy, but not bloody. Could’ve eaten two of them it was that good
What are NR plates?
