Tea job got a mention Elddis out of Tetley`s now closing Aycliffe & Norbert Dentresangle got the job now distribution from Trafford Park. All these big boys got the job knackered 24/7 & all that,

Here’s a snap of one of Tetleys motors in the old days off another forum. They used to run some good motors in those days - F88’s, Scania 141/142, Merc 1633’s. Terry Brewster was the shunter over at Eaglescliffe tipping the trailers that were left in the fenced off compound next to the factory and leaving the empties on the waste ground at the other side of the road. It’s a shame they are moving work out of the North East after the region has been a base for them for so many years…they obviously don’t understand the term loyalty…

I think the job was knackered when Tetleys got rid of their own transport at Acliffe,i knew a lot of lads that went to Tetleys inc the transport manager When Aycliffe opened, but they did’nt go on to work for Elddis when they got the distribution.Vic.

a diagram of the crash scene to complete, when the agent asked him what gear was he in when the

crash occured he replied;- TRAINERS AND JEANS :unamused:    what a twerp

ha ha ha ha :unamused:

alan

it may have already been mentioned  but does anyone remember old hutch wacking the low

bridge at PERTH with the bin lorry

robertshaw and myself brought a couple of bin lorries back from the midlands as return loads for north

scotland, inverness i think, and they were quite high on the trailer. it was a friday.

on the following monday robertshaw took his up to scotland but mike gowland gave me a load for south

and sent bob hutch up to scotland on the tuesday with this bin lorry on a trailer, got as far as PERTH and

demolished the bin motor under the bridge, :open_mouth: :unamused: :unamused:

quite funny at the time but not for hutch

alan

I can remember it well, every time Hutch came in the yard and saw John Henrys car, he would turn around and go back out. However, One day John Henry hid his car and when Hutch got out of the cab they shouted for him on the tannoy to come to the office.
When he walked into the office, there sat John Henry,Roger, the transport manager (I forget who was transport manager at that time) and Jean Banks ready to take notes. ‘‘Whats this?, a court martial’’ said Bob,‘’ I knocked it off so you can either sack me or keep me on cause I am going home for my tea’’ and promptly walked out of the office.

one bitterly cold morning in the early 80s ROBBIE picked up an empty snow covered trailer from the yard
went to bowburn to load and run for watford, he cleared the thick snow off the trailer and put out the
timbers ready to load, loading finished he roped up and off he went
well, we all know how sharp that slip road can be as you leave the M1 at watford
but ROBBIE had forgotton he had loaded on top of a frozen trailer bed and as HE left the M1 a stack of
asbestos sheets left the lorry to land neatly on the side of the slip road, you would have thought a
fork truck had put them there :open_mouth: , they were there for about a week i remember

alan

Hi Alan,

Was telling Dad about this last night and remembers it well. A similar incident happened to him but not due to the weather. He was going across to Wareings at Wrea Green near Blackpool (who made the farm buildings) with a load out of Bowburn. Came off the A1 at Scotch Corner, onto the A66. As he was giving it some welly, a stack of asbestos sheets started to peel away like a deck of cards. Not one hit the road, instead they all landed in a field on the nearside…one lucky farmer may have ended up with a free roof that day

Darren.

Jimmy Sherington jumped out of his Tractor Unit one night dressed in only his underpants for a Jimmy Riddle. Unfortunately, he had forgotten that he was being piggy backed on another trailer to save fuel. It was a long way down as Jimmy soon discovered. Happy Days, we certainly had some.
Bill

i bet he struggled to get back to sleep after that :open_mouth:

alan

Not half as much as he struggled to climb back in the wagon.
Bill

HA HA nice one

My wife and I were down the Cemetery today putting some flowers on a grave when we noticed four men wandering about carrying a coffin.
Two hours later, they were still wandering about.
My wife said ‘‘I think they have lost the plot’’

Bill,

Taken at the roundabout on St. Andrews Lane on the same Gala Day as the one you posted earlier. Ray Hardwick’s Bedford TM is bringing up the rear. Did Dents buy this motor second-hand as RDP is on old Reading registration mark?

Darren.

Hi Darren, It was bought new and it was on the front of a Daf brochure I used to have. However on the brochure, that reg. no. was on the
Daf 2800. I once pointed it out to the Daf dealer, but they said that I didn’t know what a was talking about. If there is anyone out there who collects brochures, perhaps they might have a copy.

hi all

back from a week in majorca, 1 day dull and windy, 1 day heavy rain, constant, and then

5 hot sunny days so all in all not bad

alan

We took the Grandkids to Ibiza a few years ago and it rained 5 days out of 7.When we came to take-off, the lightning was bouncing off the end of the runway and the Captain would not take off till the storm had passed over.
Anyone found that DAF Brochure yet?
