Twice in my times as a 3.5T driver I’ve met artics on that road. Once was a Stobarts, other was a Sports Direct wagon. Both times I wondered what the driver had been smoking…
And both were aiming to go down it! Goodbye brakes.

I’ve done it in an18 tonner and that was bad enough, was doing Carlise to Windermere, usually I’d go M6-A6-A591 but looked on Google maps, saw the more direct road, checked for weight limits, all was clear so I went. I didn’t even know it was a mountain pass! I did stop for done photos at the top though

Kirkstones fun in a coach. … untill you meet a touroid who hasn’t a clue of the width of the car. .
Managed to hit the limiter once going over in the 90’s. That old b10 used to fly up it

Definitely up to the A66,especially if you have a bit of weight on and the roads are wet,we used to deliver to Gosforth 1st drop in a Artic fully loaded, used to always go the coast road as we travelled up early morning…that was until I got stuck on the bank by the castle hotel, real sharp left hand bend on a steep incline so not chance of a run up to it!
Time wise it’s literally about 5-10 mins longer going A66 but far more relaxing and you’ll arrive with both mirrors attached
were you pulling a tanker ■■ I remember seeing one with the trailer n/s wheels stuck in the verge a couple of years or so ago .
