Been around for a while. Will be interesting to hear what circumstances brought them to this state of affairs.

Working in the same sector but on a far,far smaller scale,i wouldn’t be surprised that the final nail was as follows.
The past winter has been a very lean time in the foodservice industry which obviously means lack of turnover and profit.
Easter is upon us,which is a very busy time for the foodservice industry and customer demands mean that you have to order in and keep stock levels high to fulfil demand.
Because little money has been earned through the winter and the banks are reluctant to help, you can’t buy stock which means you can’t fulfil your customers orders which means you wont produce turnover, which means you cant buy stock etc.etc.
It’s a vicious circle.

Good luck to the DBC staff on finding something new.

Hey Gov, just noticed that in this weeks Essex Comical Young Gubbins have a notice in for an O licence for 6 trucks & 7 trailers or other way round at Citylink in Chelmsford. I’ve noticed a few less blingy motors of theirs on the road of late so they may be expanding. Might be worth a call to see if they are looking.

Hi everyone on the forum. I’m currently working (just) for DBC and it’s a pretty sad place to be I can tell you.

Governor, although I don’t think I met you, Phil on nights used to mention you quite a bit. Do you know what’s happened to Mark on the day shift? I think other branches have gone to the wall but we are still only being drip fed the info.

Can I just say that when i started at DBC I had little experience of driving having only used an 18 tonner to run up and down the M11 three days a week. I know that multidrop food work is not everyones cup of tea but they gave me a chance and for that I am grateful. They also spot if you have any potential to move up the ladder and after 8 years of driving set the ball rolling for me to move to the TM roll. Gutted as I was just about to book up my CPC when it all went bang!

It’s a real shame to see them like this after 110 years in the business.

Same here, wasn’t my thing but the job was there when I needed one and it taught me a lot.

I expect a few of the drivers I worked with were still there, Matt Whiteley was a good one that I used to work with a fair bit. I think he used to dispair of my slapdash approach to parking along the roadside sometimes, being ex army it had to be right but he knew exactly where to stop to get the tail lift in the right spot and make the job easier. His attention to detail on stuff like that opened my eyes.

If in doubt he put an extra ■■■■■■■■, claiming that it wouldn’t do much good in the box. That’s something I’ve always remembered.

Matts still there in the final week, great bloke lots of us ex forces guys worked at DBC, good crowd!

Marks got an interview with Stobarts in Aveley next week, and is doing 3 days a week for his mates company pulling containers, if you know of any newmarket drivers who can get to Bishops Stortford, Brakes are looking for another 5 drivers to cover Cambridgshire area, im starting with them next tuesday, gonna be different from Night trunking!!
