Day rate tramping

How do you lot manage to work 15 hours a day? I’m on trip money and work less than 12 hours a day.

Cuz the minges won’t tip the bloody wagons!!!

tommy t:
You can’t opt out of the WTD , well i have so far never observed it, or been asked to do so by an employer and i don’t intend on doing,

And thanks to twunts like you pay in haulage is as crap as it is.

You’re a mug. Worst part is you’re too stupid to see you are.

Well he’s up too 57 hrs this week and has the majority of today and tomorrow to do so he says it’s going too be 80 hrs+ this week !spoke too another driver and he confirmed the same !long hours!he’s done 3x15 hrs too start the week.
Mate said he’s calling it a day when he gets back Saturday, said he must be on £5 p.h( not sure that’s quite right) but it’s not far away,

Isn’t tommy t agreeing with you conor? I read it that he’s saying the WTD (whilst we know it’s got massive loopholes in) offers some protection similar to what you said.

If he’s on £103 a day then he’s on far more than the average tramper in Kent earns.

I’m on day rate (not tramping, normally one night a week though). Paid for 55 hours per week but tend to average 52. I just accept the times I go above 55 as things just averaging out. Some drivers like to phone me and others and say “I was finished by 11am” but they also like to cry when they do 12 or more.
As long as the money keeps rolling in I don’t care.

yes bristolron but guy is obviously in real world of general haulage ands just wants some advice we can all get on here and say ye I earn bla bla bla but sometimes in life a mans gotta do wot a mans gotta do

I know what you are saying but I was just pointing out that £103/day when you are expected to do 13/15 hours is a bit on the low side for driving an artic even on general haulage. I am on general haulage myself but would certainly not like to work on a day rate for the job.

With day rate you take the rough with the smooth that’s his look out if he’s doing more than 11 per day

Jacked Saturday when he got back, going back on agency,

How do you work this
I’ve a mate who’s on it and he’s pulling his hair out
He get 103 per day- mon- fri
Sat - 140 ish
They say the days are based on 11 hrs,but there running him at max hours .
My only suggestion is park the truck up at 11 hrs,but he says he can’t as the work there putting on him wouldn’t get done, then they’d be on his back.
I’ve done tramping on hourly rate and you just bang in as many hours as you can ,but no experience of day rate tramping so struggling to give him advice other than park it up after 11 hrs which he says due to workload isn’t a option.
So anyone on it,how do you work it .ta

£103 for 11 hrs is £9.36 ph if as you say they are running him at max which I presume is 15 then his £103 drops to £6.86 ph
Tell him to park up on 11 what is not done, do it the next day nobody in their right mind works o/t for less than what they would for their normal hourly rate.
Two other options keep a tab on the hours excess of 11 and then tell the Boss man thats the hours hes done and wants paid time of in lieu OR tell him to stick where the sun dont shine

If you think about it, £103 a day is actually less than minimum wage. A day has 24 hours in it, and you’re entire day is wasted attending a single day’s tramping shift - whichever way you look at it. You’re not booking into a hotel when off duty, nor able to leave the vehicle by some considerable distance, and say, go out on the town. If your time is not your own, then it’s the firms. £103 for 24 hours of your time is very little. :sunglasses:

Chatting too him last night the things that made him leave were

  1. Did 80 + hrs a brought home £550 ( that maybe too do with tax code though)
  2. Being required to do 6 days/ 5 days/ 6 days etc,if it had been 5 days with the option of o/t he may of stuck it,but after doing 80+ hrs and then getting a day off for him wasn’t enough( but he was told this at interview ,but not 6 days of max hrs)
  3. Start times, they pushed it start times back too miday ,so he wasn’t parking up until 2/3 a.m, he could live with that other than last shift which meant he was working into his day off .
He’s left his last 4 jobs within a week/ two and there all within the last few months, gone back too the agency he left recently  So I’m not sure how this is going too pan out,but they’ve put the rates up from £7.80 p.h- £9.00 and that has persuaded him it’s the way too go :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: ,I expect phone calls with I’ve NO work within days

Now back there working :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: ,been told too park it up when he’s done his work ( I thought that was why he was doing 15/15/15/13 etc  ) .
Told h/r he done 80+ hrs on his first week and it was 20/30 hrs more than the 11 hrs average p/day he’d been told at interview, there now looking into it,
I await the phone call in the morning ,15 hrs again :exclamation: :unamused: :unamused:
