I dare say a lot of the older stuff has had most of the usable parts taken off and sold many years ago, who knows, in years to come there may be a way of taking photos of some of them and making a new one with a 3D printer or some other yet to be invented technology, those old wrecks could turn out to be worth their weight in gold.

There’s a few motors still in there that “should” be saved due to their rarity/history etc
there would be a hell of a lot more stuff saved if bruv didn’t want ridiculous prices for some of it.he’s more than happy to watch it rust away to ■■■■ all…

Not rush green , but does anyone remember a place at colnebrook . I took a load of stuff from a local breakers yard , a couple of bread vans minus bodies , gardner engines , david brown gearboxes , axles and other bits and pieces . It was all going for export .I remember reversing off the main road , down a track into what looked like aladin’s cave . There were loads of old us army vehicles , even a couple of sherman tanks plus heaps of stuff similar to what i had on . I wasn’t there long , whipped everything of in no time . I never went again as the boss had hell’s own job getting paid by the local breaker . Just a memory now from the dim distant past . dave
Hi “rigsby” We did a load of old axles to this place, IIRC They used to advertise in the Commercial Motor Book, We got paid ok from the sender But he had a long wait to get his money for the load & didn’t sell any more stuff to them, This was in the early 80s, Regards Larry.
That explains things larry , our breaker was a bit of a wide boy , so he wouldn’t pay up until he got his money from colnebrook . I’m not sure if it was near georges cafe , i just remember it being surrounded by trees , but it was over 50 years ago and the old brain cells are getting worn out . dave
I know of a chap who 'phoned Rush Green up for a part and travelled down from the Midlands to collect it, while there he asked about another part that he required, “That will be another appointment” he was told so needless to say he didn’t return.
What was the name of that large yard alongside the M1 Southbound between gates 21 and 20, (Leicester Forest and Lutterworth) it was just past the old railway overbridge and on the left? Long gone now of course.
I went to Rush Green in 1977, I was looking for a Dodge Tipper at this time, When I phoned up to see if they had any I was told they had several all MOTd, & ready for work, When I had a look at what they had I was right ■■■■■■ off I may tell you, They were all Ex Halls Aggregate motors & none of them were complete in any shape or form, The best one of the bunch had no floor in it, The rest were just scrapers as far as I was concerned, They were all past their best, But the guy there with the handle bar tash seemed to think that I was too fussy, Regards Larry.

my father had a Leyland badger artic that got stolen in the late 70’s.it was found a few days later minus its load, and the thieves had damaged the drivers door in the process of nicking it.
the old man went down to rush green as its about ten minutes from our house,as he walked in he explained " my lorry got nicked the other day"…(about to explain he needed a new door for it) when matey cut him off and said "well it aint in here so ■■■■ off " hahaha.
he ended up getting one from Tom Gray at Langford. does anyone remember him?
or Frank Jackson in ickleford ? much of the old yard is still there ,down by the riding stables on the bend before the railway bridge.
loads of stuff still in there-lots of Bedford o type artics and commer two strokes so i’m led to believe.but I think bruv from rush green owns that now aswell,so good luck buying something from there…
i’ll have a look tomorrow and take some pics from the fence-its about a mile from my house lol

Pete.
that was Tommy Simpson’s yard…fantastic collection of old relics was in there, and Tommy was a local legend around here! his office was an old tin shed, with a dozen cats milling about
Many similar breakers and second hand dealers seem to have a somewhat unusual approach to doing business, I suppose that its their own way of deciding who are genuine customers and who are tyre kickers and time wasters. John Charlton at Farnworth, Lancs. was of that ilk. Back in the early 1980s Alan Hindle required a windscreen for an Atki Borderer, and Charlton had one, and Borderer windscreens weren’t very plentiful by then. His price was, for arguments sake £30, so Alan bid him £25. No deal was agreed but Charlton picked up a hammer and smashed the windscreen, his reasoning being it was his price or nothing.

It’s not a Gardner Ramone it’s got a ■■■■■■■ in .
So why the Gardner badge on the front ■■?
Maybe it just looks nice?!?!
Years ago I put a Gardner 150 badge on the bonnet of my Mini van, but it didn’t have anything other than a BL engine in it.

Because Gaz is a Gardner freak .
Thanks Dan [emoji1303]the best engine ever made
Ramone I restored her in the livery of the firm I worked for all our 400s/401s except 1 401 were all Gardner powered
so it’s more to do with nostalgia
Sadly I’ve had to get rid of her due to ill health
