You should go to Tesco in Daventry … run by Wincanton … we drop containers in there… and when we back on a bay to have the bolt seal cut off so we can open the door’s … we have to pull the park brake on the trl and hand the key’s in … so the polish warehouse man can cut the seal without fear we will pull off and hurt him …

I have said it before, but what a great thread this is…love seeing the pictures of the Davies trucks out and about tramping on the Continent in present time.Where are the Davies trucks this week ? Any pictures Davies drivers ? Keep it going

Hi ringrose nice comments about the company i founded. This is Buzzer but im’e retired now i’ll try and take some pics when i visit the yard as well and post them on here and have a word with Andrew to do a bit more photo work on his journeys. It’s quite amazing how far these threads reach regards buzzer.

Thank you Buzzer, wow the boss himself, you must be proud of the company and moreso that it is still operating when many others have long since gone.
Yes, please see if you can get Andrew to take some more pictures whilst they are earning their keep overseas and look forward to seeing them and your pictures within the yard.
Thanks again.

Hi Pat that F12 is an ex AS Rawlings i bought it of Elky and FT put a rod thru the side on the winchester bypass Les Slaterordered a new exchange motor for it before i got to his workshop and she did plenty more work after that. This was the last motor that i drove abroad before going into the office fulltime we had 9 motors on the road then but in this pic i think Ken Daly was the pilot.

Hi to all and buzzer who look at this thread.
Must say wot a brill and intresting thread read all the pages with intrest.
I remember meeting one of your drivers around about 96. Had just shipped into Cherbourg on the way to Lisbon for the first time. Tagged on with a couple of john manns drivers from sleaford half way down through France we met your driver I seem to think his name was Steve a tall feller with thinning black hair and a tash (please tell me if I’am right) we made are way down to castets for the night. The next morning we left about 8ish on the way into Spain. We left the two john manns lads at Burgos as they was on the way down to ship out for north Africa and me and your man carried on to Vila Formosa for the night. The next morning we left and your man gave me some very good advice about guarda bank on the ip5 keep it in low gear and plenty of exhaust brake as I had a full load of haning lambs on and only having a 320 f10 it was going to be hard work he also said the Spanish boys will try to push you down but f###em the have retardes they can wait for you. We left with your driver in front as he only had about 2 or 3 pallets of medical gear on and a new FH12 globby he gell-ed on (lol). I made my way safely to Lisbon and never saw your driver again so if you remember this driver thank him for that advice from the young driver from Grimsby who was driving for E Handcock and subbing for mick moody 15 years late.
Keep the good work up with this thread

TANKTROTTER

Hi Tanktrotter this thread is like a drug specially when there’s naf all on’t telly i suspect the driver you enquire about is steve who is still about but does not drive for us any more we give most of our drivers nicknames and they usually stay with them long after leaving us in this case i think this was “BLAKEY” from on the buses cos he resembled him i’me sure my son Horry will correct me if i’me wrong keep reading best regards Buzzer.

Amazing thing the Internet ay buzzer    ever thought of writting a book John?? Or a movie :unamused: Regards Jimski

Jimski wot a crackin idea start with a book then move on to a film eh we’d need plenty of extra’s but im’e sure we would find some willing volunteers. we often joke about our ex drivers and say we could fill a 40ft container but i think we’d need more than one or though we have a steady crew at the moment but maybe thats to do with the state of the country. when i first started 50% of the loads goin out of here was on UK trucks now it’s about 15% just shows how things have changed.I’ll give the old book/film thing sum thought. Buzzer.

Just had a long conversation with Pete Clue who has just been in my office, we have been talking both about this and thread as well as the Rawlings and Pat Duffy Transport site as he called it  How fab it is to read and look at old photo’s and remember good times and good mates, keep it up guys…

Pete
