I know what your saying. At the end of the day no car or truck is perfect despite what v8 scania fans tell you .
But reading through various post you seem to be a Volvo man in all honesty I’d go with one of them if that’s what you like only downside of course is they ain’t cheap.
I do like Volvos, but I think Dafs are good too, the ones I’ve had have done the job well enough and the Dutch obviously are very keen on them and I tend to think of them as knowing what’s what in the transport world.
I personally don’t rate Scanias- nothing wrong with them and they are well-built, I’ve just never felt as happy driving one.
I’ve found with dafs they are ok if they have had a regular driver who looks after it but if they have had a bit of a hard life they don’t stand up to it as well as a scania or Volvo.
I think a lot of it is what you get used to but I still think scania and Volvo closely followed by merc are just a little bit better than the rest.

Cheers Rob.
Think you would look good in one with the chicken with rabies transfers on it and your never late with a v8 and all that crap plastered on it.
and don’t forget all of the obligatory V8 stickers all over the inside and outside, just in case they can’t remember how many cylinders the engine has got

Harry I’d leave dafs alone. Everyone I know seems to spend a fortune on them once they get to about 5 years old.
tell my boss that, just replaced on a 07 plate cf 460 this month, compressor, steering pump, water pump, ad blue dosing unit and this morning the radiator commited suicide.
the haulier down the road this month had a gearbox go on a 59 plate volvo, a 57 plate scania drop 1 piston, another 09 scania with a knackerd diff and a 11 plate daf with a confused ecu
Although the first one looks nicer with the full air kit, I’ve lost count of the number of side deflectors that I’ve seen on DAF’s that are damaged with what I would suspect is the susies catching them when screwed around. Either that, or trailers catching them.
Having just driven an XF 460 recently for a few weeks, (Hire motor on a 58 plate.) and others like it previously, I can’t help noticing that the drivers seat seems to lean slightly after the miles are racked up. Or is it just me?
I started a thread on the Drivers forum recently about the pants radio in XF’s as well. Just make sure that it’s up to scratch Harry.
But that aside, I loved it, and would not have had any problem being away in it.
What do folk think about replacing stuff, that’s likely to go, from the off on 2nd hand trucks around the 500k mark.
Always bought at this age myself as don’t do anything like enough miles to offset the depreciation on new but, on different trucks, had things like compressors and dryers go that have left me stranded at the side of the road with big bills leaving me wondering if I should have replaced them beforehand at leisure when I could have sourced the parts cheap.

It’s not that, I don’t think.
There is a steel strengthening bar along the bottom of the rear offside deflector, that’s where you are supposed to pull to open it.
Most drivers pull at the rear of the deflector and they soon break.
Nearside ones don’t open but there are those who continue to try until it snaps…

Good in theory, but where do you draw the line? Compressor, air drier, turbo, rear axle? Sometimes you can tell if something is end-of-life, like a clutch or brakes, sometimes you could be replacing something that has years left in it.
I have been offered the option of breakdown insurance at £250, covers three call-outs, two for any one same thing and a tow-in if needed and I think I’ll go with that and a three-month driveline warranty.

my boss see’s it now he’s spent about a couple of grand on my daf it hopefully wont give much more bother.
the breakdown insurance sounds like a good idea as you would be at least a hundred quid for an out of hours call out before the guy even leaves too attend too you.

that would be a good buy… how long will you plan on keeping this truck for?
