If cyclists think the "taking up the primary position " is a good idea, and I am not saying it isn’t,Ireally don’t know, when they come up to a queue of say a dozen vehicles should they not maintain this position and wait their turn like all other vehicles do ?. Seems a bit "Cake and eat it " doesn’t it ?
No, what they should do is filter through the traffic like motorcyclists do. This may involve some queueing, but the safest way to do this is along the offside, since people are prone to suddenly flinging the passenger door open in a traffic queue, and the last time a car driver looked in the nearside mirror was on a driving test in 1974.
I agree with you RT on this, theres a time and place for ‘primary’ but safe filtering is ideal for making progress.
Course when filtering goes wrong cyclists can attack:
How naughty is that mini van closing the door, but really that sort of a ‘bike rage’ behaviour will get this cyclist knocked on his arse, not by me of course but sure there are some less tolerant folks out there.

well he’s still in his lane making sure he’s got clearance for the island on his off side its the cyclist who is leaving his lane to pass a bus in a bus stop which he didn’t plan.
Another example of how not to filter
Rather then just sitting and waiting behind the pick up as he choose the wrong lane to bypass the queue stopping and signalling he wanted to be in the left lane he yells the cyclist War call of “PEDDLE POWER MOVE INFERIOR MOTORISTS” and goes for it.
Who pays for the damage to the bus and pick up as he just rides off
and then to top it off another lemming goes for it

Blimey. I’d never put myself in that position on a bike. There are some arses out there.
First off, glad he’s OK no matter how much of an arrogant bugger he comes across, but traveling that fast in those conditions is asking for trouble and he ran out of talent at the wrong moment.
Thats said it bloody hard to ride a bike that fast and I’ve done it but as a smoker can’t last very long.

He hasn’t rode off, when camera guy passes the inside of the bus, the guy is propping the bike up against building on the corner.
The guy in that last clip… why on earth would any sane person even attempt that move? There was blatantly not enough room there. It always seems to be aggressive males in these vids.

And if no-one passed stationary vehicles where safe to do so then no-one would ever get anywhere. The only real differences between parked vehicles and stationary traffic to a cyclist (or anyone really) is that the latter vehicles have people in, are probably switched on, ready to go and not necessarily at the side of the road, otherwise they might as well be parked. The point here is there is not much point in overtaking something if they only catch you up at the lights, is there? (Genuine question there ). One might as well hold back then there would be no chance of the slightest conflict.
