A written sign is all good and well however there is no requirement for a cyclist to have the ability to read or write or understand any road signs.
Of course you will have no objection for me to post this to help your fellow professionals, to not only read but to also do basic arithmetic as well.

But we still have to pass a test which involves us proving we understand road signs and their meaning. (Yes I know it means they’re not always adhered to)
There is no such requirement for a cyclist so they can always use ignorance as a defence. If a person cannot read/write or interpret road signs then they don’t get a licence. If a cyclist cannot do this, they can still use the roads.

Sadly not true in this age of foreign drivers flooding our roads. A drainage company I worked with last year had an Estonian driver, couldn’t read or write a word of English, good driver though, just couldn’t go out on his own until he been taken by a passenger! Also couldnt read the little signs on the truck like “don’t drive with the water tank full if the back tank is full or you will be overweight”, oddly he got done for driving while overweight, pulled in while driving passed a testing station on a road we avoid, couldn’t read the signs you see.
Having said that I’ve never heard of a trucker following his sat nav & being taken up a track too small for his vehicle…oh hang on!

I find Paint works quite well for altering road signs or text

It is very specialised Harry, I saw a job advertised on a shopping channel for someone with a degree course specialising in Photoshop, salary was 60k plus - and no driving trucks. It is an amazing piece of software.
