hi i think they were turbos and were straight six ,cos i remenber the Gardner 240 stuck out the back of the cab ,think that was an 8 cylinder ,but it was 40 years since i worked on them ,rob

Was it not the Gardener 300 that was the long 8 cylinder motor, and the 240 a 6 cylinder?

Gardner 240 was 8 pot I think they put a turbo on it mid 80’s and that updated it to 300
Jim

No mate the Gardner 180 was a 6 cylinder 6LXB and the Gardner 240 was the 8 cylinder 8LXB, the Gardner 300 was the 8 cylinder with a turbo 8LXCT, the most popular at the time amd probably the better engine was the 180 usually teamed up with the David Brown 6 speed gearbox and 2 speed back axle.

Aye,we have one in AEC Matador, the 180 Gardener 6LXwith the David Brown 5 speed though…I’ll have to ask Uncle that…I’m sure Fryske might have a pic not sure or maybe even Renegade Dave.
