Crap week!

I need to rename this thread to ‘Crap MONTH’

After having the truck for 3 seperate occasions during the past 5 weeks for a total of 6 and a half days and deciding to put jobs off until the truck is due inspection at the end of June…my truck was put out of service today following a level 1 in Kittery, Maine. The brake pads on both sides of the steer axle had pretty hefty cracks in them so I had to spend over 5 hours there getting it sorted. Hopefully the $586 bill that Freightliner have now received will make them more enthusiastic about maintaining the ■■■■ thing in future.

Oh dear, if the DOT could see them, you should’ve picked it up on a pretrip. Tut tut:D

He didn’t seem to think it was something I should have been aware of and said I wont be getting any points on my CSA thing, but the company will be. They’re ‘really happy’ at the moment because this truck is only a rental on a week to week basis and they pay more for it because of that flexibility. I can see that I’ll be driving something different in the very near future now.

Talking of the DOT i got pulled in down at Chowchilla coming back the other day. Like a good driver I pulled into the shed set me brakes turned the engine off, wound the window down log book and pre trip book in hand smiled and said good afternoon sir how are you today, even got a smile back and after a pleasent exchanged asked if I could turn the reefer off to which i replied sure thing sir if you sign my BOL asking me to as I have a temp recorder in the back i got the the reply no problem sir you can go on your way!!

Thats good mate, I do a pretty good pre trip and post trip inspection but there’s no way I will lay under a truck or trailer looking at things I can’t see from crouching down with a torch if needed, I ain’t a mechanic, I’m a driver, one guy dropped a trailer in our Yanokers yard yesterday and told me he was putting it out of service because there was only about 1/4 inch thickness of brake pads on the shoes. I said he was a good man to get under there because no freeking way I would, about 3 hours later a Frieghtliner mechanic arrived got under the trailer for about 10 minutes, walked to the front and ripped the tag off, looked at me and said “You need to tell your guys to stop whining, these are legal”
