Harry Monk:
If Muckspeader is working on those margins and the work is likely to be consistent, then my advice would be to put a second (and third) truck on the road now, rather than at the end of 2014 and beyond.
If I could get a truck to earn £1,000 a week before paying the driver’s wages, then I’d fill up my O licence tomorrow.
Hi there , would it be possible to register ur car as the company’s car so the (insurance + fuel+ other expenses ) will be the company expenses and ur not ganna pay tax or ni for that .

My accountant said that there isn’t any advantage in having a car through a company any more, the rules have changed to the point where many people who do need a car in the course of their job (reps etc) will decline a company car because it’s more cost-effective to run their own.
You can claim business mileage, I’m not sure how much I claimed for last time, my accountant did all of that based on what percentage of my car mileage was allowable for business use, I’d guess about 80% of it is business-related in some way.
Some very good replays … You can make a good living out of it depends on the work… Locals are the way forward … But ya car’nt always get 3 a Day… I do middle distance containers for a shipping line … I’m home nearly every night and turn over between 2.5k and 3k a week I’ve got a nice truck pay my self 500 a week… But have been doing it 8 years and am established now … On the down side the job ain’t wot it was 6 years ago… If u want to become a OD do it because you have always wanted to… Not to try and get rich quick… Because you won’t … And most probably wot ever you put in to start you won’t get back out…

If this helps
I became an OD 6 months ago after owning and selling another business.
I turn over an ave of £1980 a week £450 for fuel, £60 tax & Insurance
Maintenance for past 6 months has cost £1240 = £50 a week incl tyres
I paid for the truck outright though I consider £400 a week towards truck reasonable
I could therefore take £1000 a week
My aim is to buy another truck probably late 2014 then 1 a year
Game on, I think you get negative comments from people who have either failed or are scared of competition.
£450 a week on fuel? you on rebate stuff or pushing it every where?
Could be that he’s on a decent job that doesn’t require wearing out the lorry and lining the pocket’s of the oil companies
Judgeing by his user name and i think from what ive read before his work is of more a specalist nature not running all over the shop for buttons.
I guess the cost of equpment is why he is waiting before expanding.
Just one question from a know nowt helmet. Have you started your business yet or is it still a dream? anyone who asks such a dumb (zb) question on here must be a(zzbb).
