Cheers John, that was the place, spoke to a driver the other day that worked there mid 80’s who said the place was a dump but the people and the job was good. Back and forth to Silvertown one week and then local NW deliveries the next. Eddie Carter, one of the drivers, convinced me that I put a few new rigid ERF’s in there but i don’t remember em!!

Is this the place ramone?0

Yes they ran the Mercurys well past their sell-by date. There was also a connection between Cleggs and Yelloway coaches, another AEC stalwart with some of the very last Reliances to be built. I think it was a family connection between Cleggs and Yelloway

I did some sub contracting for Cleggs in the mid to late80’s when I first became an O/D

The AEC’s were originally dark blue, light blue in the later years.

Not sure about the connection between them and Yelloway, the last owner was called Bill Burrell. He was one of the old school, always straight and fair with me, but then I didn’t work for him.

Andy Meek who founded Holroyd & Meek bought the firm after selling H&M which became 3663.

Cleggs then became Meek Transport which is(as far as I know) no longer trading but Andy Meek and his son are still involved in road transport.

Yes, I met Bill Burrell. A very decent sort of a man was my impression. He told me about the Yelloway connection, it went back a long time to the early days of both companies, but I can’t remember the exact details now.
