Depends if you’re top weight or not. If you’re heavy then personally I’d go north to Brum, then back down. The A43 just has too many roundabouts and is a pain in the arse.

Absolutely I would. The A46 might be a nice drive but I wouldn’t use it when heavy for the same reasons I won’t use the A43. Too many stop/starts. The M6, although longer, will be much easier on the truck and the fuel figures, and be a more relaxing drive. The time differences will be negligible too.

Some of our 4 legger units are rated at 32t so that shows how heavy we run

I don’t think I could hack a job where they tell you what way you need to go. That’s half the fun trying different routes, building your road knowledge so if a road is closed you aren’t panicking if you can go that way or this way.I know some parcel firms have set routes for security reasons like DPD if you go off route it sends a warning back to the depot. I know tesco have set routes within a certain distance of store because of store planning consent etc.
Me neither. VOSA were having a purge at Alconbury the other day so took an alternative route. M5 was blocked yesterday so used the A46. Plus I’d love to see planners provide routes for farms.
