Close call

Maybe the lorry coming the other way didn’t realise the overtaking car’s engine was so pathetic.

Maybe the oncoming lorry driver was sick to death of saving the lives of idiots and decided a head on would take one more off the road?

Possibly.

These sort of manoeuvres are now quite rare in England. Shame the Scots didn’t take the same chance to raise the speed limit for hgv’s

Well it seems to have calmed down in my experience. The only time I see it now is when a pph driver is hanging the bag on at 40

Just me then.

No, not just you. I thought it speeded up too - I slowed the vid down to a frame by frame to try and work our what is going on, For whatever bizarre reason the length of the white lines from (dash cam time 15:20:10) reduce in length by a third, hence it does look like the speed increases.

There is something very unusual with the road markings on this road, it is maybe some weird relic from the past. All lines (NSL roads) should be centered at 9m intervals. However these seem to change from 9 Yard to 6 Yard. ■■? (lines used to be 9 yard centres they are now painted on at 9 metre centres (on NSL))

The speed on the cam stayed at 42mph. It was 41 at the start but stayed at 42 after 2 seconds

Chris1207. You NEED to send that footage to the cops and make a complaint.

Reg mark clearly visible, and that was DANGEROUS driving. The driver needs to have a strip torn off them, and if required prosecuted.

This will hopefully deter them from ever pulling a stunt like that again, which will save their life and not endanger others.

:unamused: Faaakin ell. The speed (or rather, the GPS signal) on the cam is ■■■■■■ It goes up and down 1-2 mph constantly, depending on how many satellites it’s getting a signal from. Same on motorways, it’ll vary between 53-55. I was sat on cruise at 40mph, didn’t speed up, nor slow down, other than I expect the cruise adjusting itself when the gradient changes slightly.

The point of the video, was the ■■■■■■■■ trying to kill herself, not whether my speed varied by a micron or two!

'kin ell!

After the overtake has been completed. Your point is…?

Traffic calming measures. When the markings get busier on a road the brain automatically percieves a higher threat environment and steps up a gear. You find that markings shorten at accident blackspots all over the UK because its one way to encourage drivers to slow down a touch.

‘Unusual’ is an understatement.More like suicidally stupid. It needs solid lines on the approaches and traffic islands put in well before the protected right turn lane to stop muppets like this taking advantage on the approaches to it and/or through it to overtake in either direction. :bulb:

It’s not traffic ‘calming’ that’s needed there. What’s needed is prevention of overtakes in the form of islands and solid lines.

It is not in the manual - all lines on NSL should be centered at 9m intervals and on roads 40mph and below they should be a 6m intervals. Whether it be a short line or a long line the centering should be the same. As far as I am aware they can’t shorten the centering of the lines even at blackspots. The visual clue that danger presents is simply more paint

I cant say what the manual says, I’m just going on what I was told when I was a naughty boy and had to go and learn the highway code for five hours on an evening or take some points.

I think you’re thinking of a hazard line (which is a 6m line and 3m gap), compared to a normal centre line (3m line with 6m gap).

■■■■ me that was close.

You don’t see many trucks in Scotland sticking to the 40 mph rule, 56 is their 40 !! And the majority of the roads up here in the far north are not fit for 40 even

Oi, we’re not all crazy tipper drivers  I stick to the limits, I’m salaried, the slower I go the better
