John Lewis has switched to dpd I’m informed
I know of one guy who’s owed 17k and has had to lay off 6 guys don’t know how the directors can sleep at night knowing the amount of peoples lives they’ve ruined
John Lewis have been in talks with DPD for months, the decision to change carriers could well have been the final nail in their coffin. A good friend of mine in a business manager for JL and has had a couple of meetings at DPD’s hub a few months back
Is there already a City Link thread on here? The Directors should be imprisoned for letting people know on Christmas Eve or when? What a bunch of C’s, leave it till Jan the 3rd FFS…
Think they were in trouble for a very long time though.
So let me get this right, a management company bought City Link for £1 and took on its debts, but then after going into administration they could not agree a price for the company
Hmmm I do not profess to being the most astute business man (hence why I am here ) but I feel they see profit in assets (what ever they may be, contracts? ) above doing the right thing
read today 31 12 14 that the workers are going to demonstrate at the head office,i know they want to voice their anger but what is the point, are they hoping the boss man will say OH DEAR silly me we are not actually closing and you can carry on with your jobs in the new year,i don’t think so,also said that the workers can expect a substantial redundancy,so they will have enough to see them well into the new year so why not just accept the situation and start looking for other jobs,i would

Probably the best time of year for the least parcels to be in the system so I think it was a fairly sensible time to announce it.

This is where it all falls down mate. The directors are paid to maximise profits etc. I have a family member who is paid to go in and sort large companies out. The first thing he does is take out a layer of management and getting rid of a 30 year employee is not an issue to him. It is his job to maximise the profits and if he reaches his targets he gets his bonus, if not then he’s out of a job. It is what he gets paid to do so why should he feel guilty about it.
You need to wear the other mans shoes for a while.
Did not Richard Gere do a job like that in a film then offer some blokes wife a million quid for her to get her kegs off for him … If that’s what the job entails, I still couldn’t do it !

Not sure mate as things change hourly in insolvency but it was quoted they would take drivers and staff on not necessarily contracts or wagons, more for their own expansion I think.
Perhaps I’m a bit thick but after so many years of losing money and “quite a lot” and I notice newish motors and probably leased and some probably contractors how can they get finance ? !!! What are the banks doing again.Just because they have smart looking vans doesn’t mean they’ve got any money. All fur coats and no knickers.
Can a young couple get a mortgage ?
